No question is stupid.

Now, should they all, or, do they all?

Yes, they should, but they don''t. I would definitely recommend getting them with GIA or AGS certs.

Are you looking online or in a retail shop?

Thanks for responding..

Its a retail shop that I was considering getting them from..
Should I not buy them if they don''t

I was looking at studs that are 18K white gold with 1.19 ct on each.
The salesman said they were SI1 with G color..they were for about $1600.00
Does that sound good/bad?

Welcome Jeff!

If I am reading you right, are you saying that you can get 1.19 carat each earring at $1600 each?????

WAY too cheap if this is the case....Even if they are .60 each that is still incredibly cheap, be cautious. Is this the actual weight of the whole diamond, or are the earrings made up of lots of little diamonds?

I''m not sure if they are made up of little diamonds... How would I know that?

I compared on Blue nile and they were cheaper than that but not too drastic, I was figuring I was just getting a deal..
and it was $1600 for both earrings..

Thanks..

The only way I would purchase without a cert, is if the retailor agreed to take them back for a FULL REFUND, not store credit, if they didn''t pan out. Then you''d have to take them to an independant appraisor and see if you got what you paid for.

Personally, I''d try to find a retailor with certs, they are out there. Or, buy online from one of the recognized vendors on here. I bought my studs that way, they came with certs, and I couldn''t be happier. I also couldn''t have gotten this quality for the price I did in a retail store.

I compared on blue nile the studs at around 1 ct. They were around 2K...So for 1600.. I was thinking they were ok..
I also got a 13K diamond from the guy which is GIA so I figured he was giving me a combo deal.

I was wondering if the 1.19 carat weight was made up of 2 single diamonds of around .60 carats each or lots of little diamonds ( melee or pave) to make up a total carat weight of 1.19. Sometimes lots of small diamonds are set in a cluster to give the illusion of one larger one. BIG difference in price.

No the diamonds were 1.19 each..there were no clusters.. Just studs..
Does this sound possible for around 1600-2000?

No. I just searched for the same size, color, clarity, and came up with the cheapest at 4555.00., for ONE diamond. And that''s EGL to boot, which are cheaper.

My guess is, they aren''t what he says they are. Keep looking.

2.40 carats of diamond for 2k? If they are worth more, why isn't he selling them for more??? No one is giving anything away, diamonds of that size are in huge demand, also with the time of year and stud earrings are on many women's wish lists....Something isn't right here in my opinion. Are you sure they are diamonds?

If the diamonds were 1.19 each, the carat total weight (ctw) of the studs would be 2.38. Look up 2.38 ctw studs on BN and you'll see they are well over $2000.

A single 1.19 carat diamond, graded G SI1 would cost you in the neighborhood of $4500. That's just for ONE of the diamonds.

Also, if a jeweler tells you a stone is G SI1, but it isn't certified, then trust me, it isn't G SI1. Like Ellen said, you should definitely look into having those independently appraised if you purchase them.

But I agree with everyone else - this looks way too good to be true.

FYI, my fiance's 0.86 ctw H-VS2 (AGS graded) studs were $1900. Now consider that your prosective studs are 2.38 ctw.

That price sounds right for 1 ctw, not 2 ctw. I would double check with the vendor about the weight. That price isn''t possible for 2 ctw studs. Look at the stones with a loupe and you can see if each is 1 stone or made up of a bunch of smaller ones. The salesperson should be able to tell you. When I was looking for studs in the local stores to check on size, almost all of them were uncerted. If they were certed they were the lesser certs. Sometimes you get a salesperson who doesn''t know what they are talking about. Could be the salesperson told you 1ct each when it was really 1ct total.

Usually the total weight would be listed for the pair..I''m betting those are 1.19 total carat weight. Still, no way on this earth they are decent diamonds, G SI1, at $1600. I recently priced a pair of 1.2 tcw (.61 each) ideal cut H VS2''s at about $3500 from WF....and someone on PS did buy them.

Just curious, did you check out similar diamonds on here to compare prices to the one you paid $13,000 for????

Ok, I got some clarification.. Its 1.18 Total. So basically .59 each earring.
He said they were G SI earrings. No Certifications..He said the appraisal will detail the purchase..
Also said if I wanted Certs would be much more..
He was trying to get 1600 for them but since I bought something else he gave them for $1000.00.

Does this sound more reasonable and should I get them?

jeff, there''s a search at the top of the page. I found the cheapest around 1300.00 for one. Even if he threw in the settings, it stiill doesn''t sound right...

He also knocked 38% off the price the instant the OP questioned whether the pricing was legit.

In my opinion, there''s just no way they are G SI1 stones. Also, you want to be sure they are well cut stones, otherwise you are paying $1000 for a pair of rocks. You want them to sparkle off her ears when they catch the light - otherwise why bother buying them?

If he''ll give you a full refund if you should choose after having them independently appraised, then I would consider buying them. But as it stands right now this whole thing doesn''t really smell great to me.

I have purchased from both these companies, they''re great to work with. If these are a xmas present, it might be a little tough, as inventory is being bought up for the same reason. If not, they will have more the first of the year I''m sure. If you think you might want to upgrade them in the future, be sure and mention that!
