diamond specs for earrings?

I was reading a thread the other day where someone said they liked the specs on a particular diamond for a pendant. And those specs were different than for a ring. So what would be the nost appealing specs for diamonds for stud earrings? Deeper, shallower? Does the table size matter? I'm speaking of ideal cut, of course. Thanks!

ETA: Specs for 2 matching pair (both are the same carat weight and diameter, same color and clarity basically, same price, all AGS0, all classic H&A):

Are either of these pairs more preferable for earrings? Would I even be able to see a difference in these 4 diamonds? They are all less than 1 ct.

Oh, you girls!!! Now I have a very serious question and you are no help!

There are threads around here about this, but there are no diamonds with those strange numbers. Would I be okay with regular ol'' H&A stones for earrings?

Drena's earrings have a 32CA.

But Garry is an expert and sees stones every day, has access to whatever he wants.

I'd shoot for probably a 33-34 CA, slightly shallow. But it's work, so if you don't want to spend time looking for earrings, go with the standard (and you don't need hearts and arrows.)

yes ds you''d be more than fine with regular ole super ideals or ideals or H&A''s....earrings are easy IMO because they blaze from the ear. pendants are too. but some of the more shallow pav angle stones some people say are better for pendants where there is no real obstruction going on, maybe for earrings too. but i have ACA''s and they are amazing. i would just get stones with exceptional light return and call it a day!

Okay, thanks Julie and Mara. I don't really feel like searching for obscure numbers, so I think I'll just be sure they are ideal cut and are a good match! I have my eye on two great pairs now, quite by accident, and I want to make something easy since the ring selection has been an ordeal!

Mara, one more question. Do you see anything wrong with an earring pair with one ACA and one ES?

i''m not mara but I''d don''t think you''d be able to see a difference b/t the ES and ACA stones. plus there will be the space of your head inbetween so it''s not like they are sitting next to each other as side stones where they can be compared directly

Oh yes, I agree. I was speaking more from the mental aspect of mixing a branded stone with an unbranded. Not that anyone would ever know but me, of course!

hehe....ok. it wouldn''t bother me depending what gave the stone the ES spot. as long as they look the same and you couldn''t tell which was which with the naked eye I think it would be fine.

about 5.75 between .70-.75, H VS2 (I hesitated to give so much information because I am worried about some of these stones being sold before I decide on which pair!)

i like set #2 because i don''t like depths over 62 even in earrings. that just makes them look smaller and who wants that?!?!? also i wouldn''t necessarily want more fiery earrings on my head than white brilliant.

I very accidentally came across a perfectly matched pair when looking for a diamond for someone else. Then I found the other pair. It is crazy since I already have some the same size, but they are faaaar from mind clean. And I have two girls, sooo........

Okay, that''s what I was thinking...so the larger table makes them more white brilliant and the smaller table more fiery? The second pair actually are closest to my 1.63 diamond specs. Both sets are remarkably close in specs. Honestly, had I been looking for a matched pair, it would never have been this easy!

So you don''t think it''s crazy to buy AGS0 H&A stones for ears? My friend thinks it''s crazy because she likes my uncertified mystery stones! Lol!

no way it's not crazy, why would it be crazy?!?! i priced out earrings when shopping and in reality my H&A stones are not more expensive really than what else is out there...esp in the maul stores! so why not have some great looking earrings. and the difference visually between the old icky 65% depth ones, and the new ones was like night and day, literally...i had to go down in size to stay in budget but yet the smaller better cut ones faced up just as big and much better looking than my old ones. interesting phenomenon!

Mara, the only thing about set two is that one has slightly fatter arrows than the other..one has LGF 74 and the other 78, I think. I wouldn''t be able to see that looking at the stones would I?

I doubt seriously if you could see a diffence when worn. I like the looks of pair no. 2 as well and I can tell you from personal experience that it is well worth upgrading to ideal cut diamonds for earrings. How fun!!!

Well, number 2b sold this afternoon, so that pair is out of the running. I saw that stone posted on here a few times in the last day or so, so I was not surprised to see it go. That leaves set 1 unless I decide on another color or something. But since my ring setting is my first priority, I may wait on the earring project.

I read this thread before buying my mom''s birthday gift today (diamond earring studs) and did some research online and was just about to give WF, GOG, and JA a call, but I went shopping with Roppongi today and came home with UNCERTED diamond studs.

Roppongi helped me pick them out and they''re GORGEOUS (I SI1 1.23 tcw), from Felicci & Co in San Francisco, a very reputable place. I got a lot more diamond for the money than I would have had I gone the certed ideal cut route....even if I had bought them online. I figure, they''re earrings. If they look good to my eye and through a loupe, and are nice and sparkly, then they''ll look great in Mom''s ears! She''s an older lady and deserves to have the largest and most beautiful studs that I can afford. I can''t wait to give them to her (later this fall)....until then, they''ll just temporarily hang out in my ears.
