Few concerns and questions because my ring makes me sad.

I was wondering if anyone else felt that their diamond looks larger in low/dim light as opposed to direct sunlight? My center diamond drastically looks different in various lighting. Unfortunately, I wish I went a bit larger with my center stone (0.83). I feel that my center stone actually looks smaller than what it is because the prongs are not very dainty from the top view.

Also, for those who have traded in their diamonds to purchase a larger diamond, did you get 100% of the money you put in towards the new diamond? Or was there a large disparity of what you got back. My jeweler would only give me back about 50% and I was wondering if that was the norm or not.

Thanks for your time.

I feel the same way you do. There are some instances where I look at my diamond and it looks huge and other times it looks small. I ended up going with a smaller diamond (.85) when I was picking out my ering. However, my hubby is letting me upgrade the setting and diamond for our 1 year anniversay next year. Every company has different policies regarding trades. Since we purchased from Good Old Gold, we are able to trade in our diamond for the full amount paid to go towards the purchase of the upgrade.

I dunno that the size I percieve changes much, except if I''m away from my ring (traveling, getting it repaired etc.) it seems huge when I get it back. I see the color it appears change drastically, but not the size so much.

The 50% upgrade policy is probably pretty typical of a B&M store. Unfortunately. That''s probably about what you''d get (or more in fact) if you tried to sell it privately.

A few select retailers have 100% upgrade policies- Whiteflash & Good Old Gold come to mind. Honestly, I might consider just privately selling the ring you have now and going with one of them if you think you might upgrade again, even a slight chance.

Any chance you can get the prongs shaved down a little bit? Yes, my diamond definitely looks different in size in various lighting sources.

Yes I already got it shaven down. However it is still thicker than normal because I thought it would be nice to have diamonds along the side of the prong. Though it looks great from the side I regret how it looks from the top view. Thanks for your suggestion though.

when my FH traded my old e-ring, he got 100% back on both of them towards the upgrade ring...

I noticed that my diamond looks bigger when I see it in a mirror...
