Diamond Shrinkage

I think PS causes diamond shinkage to occur more rapidly

I was just looking at all the photos in show me the ring and the diamonds look so huge because they are magnified or taken at extreme close ups. I didn''t think I was going to become addicted to diamonds and jewelry, but my ring isn''t even on my finger and I am looking at the pictures and thinking hmm next time I will go with a cushion or a RB, etc. I am like a crazy person!

You''re right!...scientific evidence shows that the more you look at and handle a diamond, the smaller it gets!!

It is true. My husband upgraded my diamond for me. I have had it less than 2 weeks now. Just this morning he said "your diamond looks smaller than it did when you opened the box." I was thinking it in my head but would never say it to him LOL! I just think that over time you get used to what you have.

After I got my pear diamond engagement ring, I kind of hankered after an asscher. So I got a CZ pendant from QVC and am now happy.

My pear isn''t shrinking though. Every morning when I put it on, I think "Wow, that''s big". I guess my husband is lucky

Ha, yes, join the club gals!!! This place will DESTROY you... Just kidding, this place is great, although I swear everyday my stone gets a little smaller!! I''m working on the upgrade, unfortunately the prices are on the upswing so it will take longer

. My first e-ring was .59pts. and I knew it was on the small side. I used to think that 1 carat was the perfect size and I couldn''t wait to get a bigger diamond! In March my husband bought me a 1.5 carat cushion cut diamond and I thought it was big! Now however, my diamond keeps shrinking by the day!

. I feel like all the rb diamonds look far larger than my cushion. For example that a 1.20-1.29 ct rb looks like the size of my 1.5 ct! Could the diamonds on PS just look larger than they actually are? I can''t believe I am even thinking like this?! The only thing that keeps me in check is when I compare my first diamond to my new one. My cushion makes my rb look like a chip! I am glad that I don''t feel alone!

. I wouldn''t ask my husband for another upgrade though. I feel like it would be wrong. At what point should I just be happy with what I have??

I cannot say for diamonds.. But so far I am ok since I have a gemstone that is a ''tad bit'' honking (just a tad... oh no... now I do sounds like I ma experiencing shrinkage) for an engagement ring. But I think that if we had gotten a diamond, I would definitely be suffering from shrinkage... I just HAVE to have something OBNOXIOUS!! and I am sooo impatient...LOL..

So I undestand too!

When we did my upgrade I was thinking of a 1.5 carat. We ended up getting a .80 set in platinum that is a VS2 F color. I could have gotten a bigger stone but something about this one just jumped out at me. I dont know if it was the VS mixed with the good color or what but when I saw this rock I HAD TO HAVE IT! So yes you are right, an upgrade is not only size.

What kind of gemstone do you have? My very first e ring was a sapphirre. Sometimes I think I should of just upgraded the sapphirre. I am so torn! LOL! Someone please help me??

I have some sort of explanation for it.
Same size objects on different backgrounds appear to be different size. It's a brain effect called "Ponzo's Illusion".

Low moon looks bigger than high one because your brain compares its size to the objects on horizon line. One of the explanations of this effect is "Ponzo's Illusion".

So diamond on photo is seen only compared to hand or the flower, which are comparable to the size of the diamond.

In real life wearer see much more extended picture with mostly bigger objects on background

Actually, no, that never crosses my mind.

I have an H, SI2, and I have positively no desire to "upgrade" the color/clarity. Mine''s eyeclean, so why pay more when I won''t see anything different than I see now?
Same with color---my diamond doensn''t show color now, so no point in changing the color either.

The "Ponzo''s Illusion" is exactly what I was thinking about, I just didn''t know what to call it. I''m such a dork in some of the hand shots I will put my hand up to the screen just so I can tell that it''s just an enlarged photo and not my mind playing tricks on me. I didn''t know that RBs appeared larger than fancy cuts until after the diamond had already been purchased, but I''m not a round gal, I won''t be upgrading per se ever because the setting that we chose wouldn''t allow for it without massive surgery on the setting. I will definitely one day get a larger stone, but it will still be fancy cut, I''d love to have a cushion. I don''t care about upgrading for color or clarity, just size

I like the c''s of my stone. It''s H VS1, I wouldn''t spend the extra money to go into the colorless range and VS1 seems great to me. I would probably go down in clarity, H is as low as I would go for color though, unless I saw a diamond that spoke to me.

It''s called H E L L!!! I love my new ering. It looks bigger than my previous princess at 1.10 (my new one is 0.91). I love my new ring more than any ring I have ever seen before. Don''t get me wrong, I would love to have the Cflutist, Reena...etc but this one is MINE. All mine. I have never seen another like it. I will post pix soon I am so sorry. I suggested upgrading for our 5 year anniversary and he said that we should "get a diamond that reflects the date we met", such as May 21 (5.21 carats). Sounds good, hahahahahah. I highly doubt it. Believe it or not large diamonds aren''t the thing in Canada. I get double takes on my 1 carat so imagine what women would think if the saw a 3 carat or larger!!! People ask me if MINE is real

We write dates the other way round in Britain, so May 21 would be 21/5. You''d only need two carats there, instead of five

With my pear/halo setting I''m not feeling any inkling to upgrade....but for me PS does incur the desire to try other shapes!!! I''m trying to cure this with CZs for now (my wallet insists this!) but someday....
