Diamond shrinkage syndrome

Hi,

Is it possible to experience diamond shrinkage even before I receive my ring? I started out looking at .70 ct., then 1 ct. and now I am expecting a 1.21 ct next week for my e-ring! It has great specs: ideal cut, J colour, vvs1, HCA score of 1.4.

I'm super excited about it, but the thought of it being small is creeping up on me.
I know this is a beautiful size for my very first e-ring, but if I'm feeling shrinkage now, what's going to happen a month from receiving my ring? I have small hands, 4.5 finger.

thanks for reading.

Hahaha you sound like me!! Already thinking of an upgrade!! But really a 1.2 is an awesome size. Depending on where you live a 1ct stone is plenty HUGE!! :naughty: but of course maybe in a few years...... UPGRADE! :appl:

I surely hope you bought from a vendor with a generous upgrade policy! If not, send this one back!

You were probably right to pre-empt DSS the way you have! I hope you love the size of your diamond and ring once it arrives and is on your finger.

LOL Love to hear some understanding!

Definitely lurking on pricescope triggered the DSS.

I can deal with 1.21ct for now... thinking about that future upgrade makes me feel good too.

Diamonds usually shrinks about .15mm per yr.. ;))

Time to plan the first reset... Halo! :Up_to_something:

Yep I think hanging out here doesn't help what starts off as a normal size seems to shrink the more you keep looking

What Arkie said is very true. There is no way I would have the size diamond I have now if it weren't for PS. This is an expensive hobby!

Hi, mmmdoan! I think that the fact you went up to a third size when finally selecting should give you some reassurance that what you will have is just right for you.

I was worried that I would feel my recent upgrade from a .72 to a 1.03 was not enough, but then it was not exactly planned as part of my reset and it was what we could afford. Plus I did have reassurance that the stone was far superior in cut to the old, which makes a difference. When I received the ring, I was stunned and slightly hyperventilated even! Yours sounds like a stunner, too, so your choice of cut will help a lot.

Truth be told, I did select a halo to help avoid DSS, as well. Yet once in a while, even though I love my new ring setting, I wonder what it would feel like without the halo. Did I miss out on that experience of having a 1 carat classic solitaire? My original e-ring was not a halo, by the way, it was a simple three stone with two baguettes flanking the center stone. So, I guess another point I am making is that it can be normal to wonder "what if..."

And if futures grant us luck, we can always upgrade down the road, like others have said! :)

P.s. I have small hands similar to yours in size. I fully believe your diamond will look stunning on your size finger. Please post when you get it.

Yep! There will always be halo... I have it set in a simple classic six prong solitaire for now.
I'm not even a jewelery wearer, but now I just want to be draped in diamonds (big ones) lol :naughty: thanks pricescope.

But actually thanks pricesope, for helping me pick a good one.

There also always be re-setting, upgrading, anniversaries, birthdays etc...

I will share once it's on my finger. The waiting game is hard too. :boohoo:
