Okay, I thought it would be fun to "learn" about diamonds and spend a whole bunch of money, but I''m finding that it''s a little more difficult than I originally thought. However, after looking around online and talking with a local guy, I have a diamond I''d like some comments on:
EGL - Round Brillant
6.98 - 6.94 x 4.41 mm.
1.31 cts.
Depth: 63.4%
Table: 55%
Crown: 16%
Pavillion: 44%
Girdle: Thin, Faceted
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Culet: None
Clarity: SI1
Graining: Slight
Color: F
Fluorescence: None
Now, I suspect that it''s not really an F, but probably more along the lines of a G or H. My hope is that it is at least a G, I can be happy with that. I was thinking about having it recertified through GIA to determine the true color, what do you guys think?
I''m not worried about the clarity. I was originally opposed to getting an SI1, but this one is not too shabby; nothing on the table, one feathered inclusion on the pavillion right where a prong could go.
I am a little worried about the pavillion depth... I think other than the color problem, this is my biggest concern. I put it into Holloway''s cut advisor and it came back in the "okay for the money" category. Seriously, how much should I worry about this? I want to buy a good diamond, but I''m having a hard time finding one that is PERFECT. So, maybe I should just call it a day?
The local guy here is offering it to me for $6,900 out the door, I feel this is a pretty fair price. However, I have a budget of up to $7,500 and want to get the most diamond for the money. Pretty much the benchmark for size for me is 1.2 cts., color no lower than an ACTUAL H, and clarity that is either a VS2 or a well placed SI1. Do these diamonds exist for my price range? Should I just call it a day with this one? Will I even notice any sort of difference in the "brilliance" and "fire?" I just need some good honest advice. I feel like this local guy is good, actually the best in town, but he wants to sell diamonds, not spend all day long talking to me.
Plus, if any of you have something I might be interested in, I am need something by 7/18.
