Making a decision…

Dear all

After some reading and research I am pretty sure I am at a point where I am ready to start searching for a stone due to specifics and budget.

After a few emails back and forward I am starting to hunt with a particular jeweller, as they have been really helpful and their prices look very good compared to online.

However they have told me they cannot provide ASET or IDEALSCOPE images, they tell me they will offer GIA certs and a light refraction image……..

Is the GIA cert, HCA tool and a light refraction image enough to make a decision???

Comments pls??

You may buy the diamond from any particular jeweler of your interest but keep the below things in mind while shopping a diamond.

Get the GIA report – To determine 4 C’s, Dept & Table %, Crown & Pavilion angles (which you may need to input in HCA tool)

HCA – refer to https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca

Ideal scope Image is considered to be more useful than HCA, however, like you said that the jeweler cannot provide asset or ideascope images , I would suggest you to post the specifications of the diamond you are looking for, then I can try and assist you…

Thanks for that

Will start using hca and posting anything I like

I personally wouldn't buy a stone online without IS and magnified images. Can you post the stones specs? Does this vendor have a good return policy? You could purchase your own IdealScope online and view the stone in person, however it could get expensive and time consuming shipping stones back and forth and you would have to feel confident that you knew how to use and interrpret the image. You could post photos here for more opinion as well. Is there a particular reason you want to use this vendor above others?

out of all the vendors i emailed and chatted to - these ones seem to have a good rep, competative pricing... and then the lady i have in contact with has been the most open and helpful, except for saying they dont deal with ASET IDEALSCOPE....

my plan was to find a stone on their website, and then use the HCA tool and post the results up here....

if you can suggest another vendor in the UK I might try that would be great, can you also tell me how I go about getting ASET IDEALSCOPE images if the vendor is not willing to supply them?

Hi Stubobby

I left a detailed reply on your other thread about vendors in the uk. I do not know if you saw my reply or not.
I know of no UK vendor that can offer you the type of info you are looking for.

I hope one of our experts will jump in and help you out.

Good luck.

I would love to help but forum rules prevent me from naming/endorsing another professional.

In case someone else recalls her; there is a wonderful jeweler in London who has contributed here in the past. She's quite cut-focused and understands the different technologies you've discussed.

I might not remember where I left my glasses, but for some odd reason I was able to recall her first name and then find the rest!

Dr. Indira Marchant must be the one.

Just a heads up re this vendor. I tried to contact Dr Merchant numerous times vis email when I lived in the UK, but never ever got a response. I would suggest calling if you can!! I know others had very good experiences.

Good luck.

:wavey:

Edited because I canny spell!!!!

Thank you for the kind mentions here.

Susimoo, I am so sorry that you were not able to reach me and thank you for bringing it attention here. As I do reply religiously to my emails - its the easiest way to send detailed information on diamonds etc, I can only think that either your email did not reach me (it could have been blocked by my spam filter for example) or my email responses to you were blocked in some way. For example I have a regular client who usually emails me from his private email but last week he contacted me via his work email and then texted me as he did not receive my email response. In his case, as he then texted me, we both realised that my email did not reach him despite my never getting a Delivery Failure notice.

I know that this sort of technical issue can happen from time to time, so you are quite right in suggesting that if anyone does not get a response from me via email then they should phone or text.
