I've seen a few different round brilliant four prong settings.

The Tiffany setting has the diamond sitting on the band so no light can enter from the base of the diamond. However the pro g setting allows light to enter from the sides.

Other settings have prongs that hold the diamond off the band so light can enter from the base. However these tend to have either thicker prongs or material between the prongs to hold the diamond securely. Therefore less light can enter from the sides.

Is there a big difference in light performance between these two settings?

Light is reflected from the top of a well cut diamond. Poorly cut diamonds can have light leakage. Your light source should not be from the sides. You can fully bezel your stone so that no light is near the sides and have a very brilliant diamond as long as it is well cut!
