I''m helping my son, a med student at UT Med School, Houston, with a diamond search for an engagement ring. We''ve already contacted Whiteflash and have an appointment to review stones on 9/21. Now I have to decide which stones we want to look at/call in, and I''m hoping you very, very helpful people can give me the benefit of your knowledge with some suggestions.
The only problem is that due to expenses of med school, my son only has $1800 - 2,000 to spend on a diamond (not including the setting) and right now, every penny couns! We have two smaller diamonds from his grandmother - not terribly valuable, but VERY sentimental, that my son wants to include in the ring. They are 3.4 and 3.2 respectively, (not carats, measurements) Color I, S2.
So I''m thinking we need the center diamond to be H, I or J color. Hopefully between .65 and .75 in carats, with excellent cut, vg or better symmetry and polish. We could of course go smaller on the stone, to a .50, but don''t want to go too small.
We want the stone to sparkle, so I know the cut is most important. And we need an eye clean stone if it is S1 or S2. I''ve looked at the HCA and all the tools, but wanted the benefit of YOUR experience, if you could share, please. You''ll be doing one stressed out med student and Mom a great, great service.
Thanks!
P. S. I''ve read many, many of your posts and feel like I know some of you! Great posts and great advice.
