Hi...love all of the information and feedback posted on this board and site! Looking to buy my first diamond (engagement) - was much happier (actually, not happier, but I was getting much more sleep

) when I only knew Table and Depth, now I think I''ve read way too much and have spent the last month or so paralyzed with thoughts of angles and things...anyway, I was hoping for some feedback on this diamond from niceice...1.602ct, Round, F-VS1, AGS, Depth 60.8, Table 56.0, Crown Height 15.0, Crown angle 34.7, Pavilion height 42.9, pavilion angle 40.7, girdle 1.2-1.7, asking $15,885. $16k is my price range and this seems to be a good fit (?) as I''m primarily trying to focus on getting a high quality Cut. I was initially looking for E color and 1.5 to 1.6ct, but have been a little frustrated in my search and things opened up (like this maybe?) when I started looking at F. Also, all else being the same, would you recommend an E-VS2 or an F-VS1 (just curious)?...never thought I would buy this online, but most of the feedback here has made me much more comfortable with the idea.

Given my price range and my primary wish for an excellent cut, any feedback/direction would be greatly appreciated...thanks and good luck to all!

Nice Ice enjoys an excellent reputation here, and with this selection, I think you''d do well. Also, if you''ve developed an affinity for Nice Ice, determined you want now to stay not above 1.5, but above 1.6, given your target characteristics, I think you''ve optimized. Otherwise, you also might consider using the search by cut tool here (up top, under prices), consider my general preference might be for E VS2 vs F VS1 (though not strong), and that you might have some other options to review there. All these options, including the one you''ve ogled, should be lovely. Given the $ you''re paying, you might consider seeing if you can find an appropriate appraiser for hire to ogle with you (the featured appraisers here may be more skilled at this than most, and your vendor(s) of choice could agree to sending in advance of any payment), selecting perhaps 2 you''d send on to them, and get an assist. Frankly, I mention this, because -- to my eyes -- you actually have a number of choices, none jumps right out, and so, if you thought to work with an appraiser this way, I''d ask them in advance, working at this sort of "high level," what they might do to ferret out the choices on your behalf, cause the differences will be subtle.

Or, go with the Nice Ice one.

With best wishes,

well, you''ve said that cut is your main concern (as it should be), but not why you''re looking at stones that have such high (expensive) color and clarity. if that''s something that you really want, then there''s nothing wrong with that at all! the 1.6 F sounds nice.

however, you could get a bigger stone a bit down the color scale. also, i would not personally pay for the VS1 rating because it''s not something you can see. you could find a VS2 or an eye clean SI1 and save yourself some money or get a larger stone. it really comes down to what you and your gf prefer. personally, i would rather get a bigger stone that is an eye clean SI1 and maybe think G-H color? (or saving the extra money is always an option too- maybe for diamond studs for the wedding

)

for example-
1.64 G SI1 http://www.dirtcheapdiamonds.com/diamond_detail.cfm?did=7265263&ref=PS622

or if you''re willing to go to I color, this is an "A Cut Above" H&A VS2 1.57 ct for $10,754
http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds/diamond_Details.aspx?itemcode=AGS-5950102

(ideal cut round brilliants hide color very well and tend to face up quite white, even in lower colors)

but you get the idea. it really comes down to what you want in your stone. if high color and clarity are important, then the one you picked sounds great!

thanks to those for the various replies! Still undecided, but will contact a local appraiser this week to see if they will play middle man between myself and the vendor before final payment, etc...slowly learning...thanks again!

Murphy there is no way in a ring you can tell the difference between E and F, and even G is pushing it
