I have been reading these boards for weeks and admiring many of your earrings on the "show me your diamond studs" thread, following links to the original posts, and comparing stats. Lots of hard work! ;) Hopefully it'll pay off and in the end I'll love what I pick out.

So, here is what I have come up with for an "every day" pair. I don't know much about matches, but they seem pretty good, looking at the stats as a newbie. Do these look nice, or would you keep looking? Is H/VS2 a popular combination for signature H&A? Does it make a difference for colour choice if it'll be set in platinum?

And another question is... friction or la pousette? I have read that many of you opt against screw-back, but I haven't found enough info on la pousette. I like the idea that they lock in place and the price isn't a concern. Are they comfortable? For those who own both, which do you prefer?

These look like a perfect match! As far as the color and clarity, I think it's a great combo, I personally wouldn't go any higher (mine are H, SI1). I can't help you with the la pousette backs but I have friction backs and haven't had any problems with them at all in almost a year.

I think those are gorgeous!!! :appl: My studs are also H VS2 but WhiteFlash ACA's. I have always had friction backs for my studs.

Well..........I don't wear earring but my daughter does.
First pair I bought for her had the friction back, she lost one.
So I learned a lesson and got her a new pair from Leslie at BGD with the LaPousette's. She tells me that they are very comfortable and easy to put on. I am also happy, because she wont lose these!

edit: OP, I just looked at the link from BGD and those stones are almost identical to my daughters. Her studs are in a 3 prong martini setting. My daughter is a little girl, 5'1" maybe 5'2" on a good day, lol, and weighs about 100 lbs. The point is they are in "my opinion" small, but look good on her. I don't know how big you are.

Would you mind asking her if they were more or less comfortable than her friction backs? Friction backs on a pair of Tiffany's earrings I have bother me a bit when I sleep, but I'm not sure that part would be any different.

I was originally looking for about 3/4 ctw, but Jamie at BGD has been telling me that the cut of the signature stones make the ones in the .6 range look that size. She said it was a popular size for every day... I don't want anything too "blingy" as I live in Portland, not LA ;) , but I do want some fire and for them to look pretty. Figured I could always get jackets to dress them up for special occasions. But maybe I should re-consider size again? I don't want them to look tiny. I'm 5'7" and 120 lbs, so thin, but relatively tall.

I cannot comment on the stones, I'm sure you will get plenty of good advice.

I recently reset my studs from a basket setting with screw backs to a bezel setting with friction backs. The setting style aside, I have to admit, that after 24 years of the screw backs, I couldn't be happier with my new friction backs. They are so very secure, I have no fear of losing one.

No other opinions on la pousettes? I guess I should take that as a negative? :?: I'm hoping to decide today so I can stop obsessing! You know how it is. :wink2:

I prefer jumbo friction backs myself b/c I can wear them all the time. I heard from other PS'ers that there is the possibility of the la pousette mechanism breaking/rusting when they are worn in the shower.

I first ordered my BG Signature with the screwbacks in a martini setting. I thought they looked too small on my ear, and so I sent them back to be bezelled. Problem solved. I also had them put the friction backs on, because I didn't like the screwbacks. This was years ago now, but I seem to remember worrying that they weren't screwed on enough and so I'd then get them too tight on my ear. Anyway, I've had no problem with the friction backs, but I don't wear them to sleep.

FWIW, mine are a little larger than the ones you are looking at (just under .50 each) and they are a J. I can't see any color at all. However, I could easily see the color when I ordered a J in a 1.5+ ct, also his signature diamond.

ETA: I just looked them up, and they are actually .455 and .452. Both J, one VS2 and one SI1.

That was going to be my last question... I can't decide between martini or the milgrain bezel. I'm not normally a fan of bezel, but something about the milgrain is appealing. Wish I could see it in-ear in a similar size!

   I've been paging through that thread for weeks! I don't think I've seen that exact milgrain bezel in that size , but it's possible I'm mistaken, as what I've been on there hoping to see keeps changing. ;)

They are gorgeous in the larger size!

I've been procrastinating my schoolwork, so I finally made a decision. Just told Jamie I want platinum martini with friction backs. Figured it's hard to go wrong with standard. Hope I made a good choice! I'm nervous and excited.

I had screw backs with my 1st pair of earrings and hated them. I had small friction backs for my 2nd pair. I had La pousette backs for my second pair, which were 3 prong martinis in about the same size as yours. For my 4th pair I had friction backs with large backs and had them changed to la pousette backs. I worried all the time with the friction backs. I have hair that gets caught in my earrings and one earring kept becoming loose. I couldn't stand the thought of losing them so I switched them.

Hi acupunk, I am just going to say this, although I don't have any diamond studs (yet !)
I DO have a pair of tiny silver balls that I like a lot.
They are about 4mm across.

I am 5'8" nowadays, and medium build.

I really don't think you will find your diamonds too small, they are an everyday pair,
and probably just right for PNW (I am from Seattle, now living in Go-Big-Or-Go-Home Texas)

ALSO, doesn't BGD have a nice upgrade policy:?
So you want to leave yourself some room.... from H you can go up in color,
from size you will be able to go up, and in clarity as well...

I think you made two PERFECT choices, I would go with the slightly larger pair, but
in all reality it's your money and I think at this point it's just down to what you feel comfortable spending, you know?

(I ADORE BGD BEZELS.....)
(Also, I would get the safest option for backings, whatever that is......
I wear earring stops on my studs, I am too afraid of losing one..... ha ha my silver balls cost 8 bucks
And I would NEVER sleep in them, but that's just me)
