diamond of a deal.... Maybe?

I am new to this forum and have been looking at diamonds for about 7 months here is one that I have come accross that fits my budget(trying to stay under 2800 but would prefer staying under 2500). Just wanted to know what others with a better eye for diamonds thought about this one.

Probably not. IGI is a 2nd tier lab, might be grading a little soft in color and clarity.

The stone's cut also look like there is leakage on the right side of the stone. IS image will tell more.

Also the stone is off in the L/R ratio, at 1.06, a square should be below 1.05, thus more discount.

It doesn't look bad, commercial quality Princess. Table is greater than the depth, the reverse is usually preferred. IGI is considered to grade more leniently than the top 2 labs GIA and AGS, but if the price is right and you like the stone, get an independant appraisal and make the sale final on it to make sure it checks out.

You can find a better cut diamond but if you like this one ask the vendor for an Idealscope image of the diamond, they should be able to supply one on request.

Thank you for the insight, any other ideas of a diamond that might fit into my budget. I did request an IS but it has not come through yet. I have been reading this forum and from what i gather James Allen is a good website to look at; is that the consenses from this group?

1.06 is just on the borderline of off square, 1.05 is normally the cutoff so I wouldn't worry too much about that if you are particularly interested in this one. What are your carat weight requirements as a minimum? Also is your budget to include the setting or just the diamond? James Allen are a good vendor, with Princess ASET images are preferred in order to properly judge the cut of fancy shapes, at this time they only do Idealscope which is helpful but ASET is best.

I think that the best 1ct Princess cuts that I've seen have certs that look something like:

L:W ratio: 1.03 or less.
Symmetry: very good.
Depth: 65-75%
Table: 60-75%
Girdle: medium.
Chevrons: 4.

Often, certs don't mention crown height, but 10-16% seems good.

My "lady" has a stone with roughly the following spec and it's stunning - bright and with incredible flashes of light and fire that beats most diamonds of any shape/cut - although the table is perhaps a bit large and possibly the stone doesn't need to be quite as deep.

Clarity: VS1 (crystal, feather, cloud in the middle of the table, but barely visible even with magnification)
Colour: I
Ratio 1.02 (5.5 x 5.4 x 4.0mm)
Symmetry: very good
Polish: very good

Table: 72% - virtually straight table edges.
Crown: 14%
Chevrons: 4

Perhaps one of the forum's diamond modellers would like to explore it's theoretical and actual character (I would, if I knew how!).
