Diamond novice....need help with picking antique cut

I’m still liking that first link to the authentic antique diamond from OWD that Missy provided. I still also think you should consider an August Vintage Round unless you want the romance and history of a true antique cut.

The Victor Canera stone recommended above by LLJsmom will be a beauty, no doubt.

I also like the K 1.77 carat from Love Affaire Diamonds. It will not be too big, :)

Now. I think you just need to consider your preferred diameter (not carat weight) and budget and I think that can help you narrow down your choices.

Leukolenos mentions Adam’s Old World Diamond bench. This is a fantastic point. All of the vendors mentioned have VERY solid benches. Old World Diamonds setting prices are quite reasonable and their settings are some of my favorites. Also, Adam has a secret stash of antique settings that he can access for you if you don’t want a newly made setting.

My opinion. YMMV. AND GOOD LUCK!

Thank you! Taking all this in... stupid question... what do you mean by “bench?” Is that just workspace terminology? I really am a novice, lol!

Ok.. I think I emailed/contacted everyone. I have checked all the diamonds listed and bookmarked some I liked but I’m also just going by what I like visually since I don’t know much about specs in antique cuts. I certainly trust your judgement though :dance::dance:

I do truly appreciate all of you taking the time to help!

Now to decide... platinum, white or rose gold. I always wear platinum or white but there is something about rose. I don’t know how it would look with my skin tone though....may go try some on to get an idea. I’m getting micropave stacking bands for Christmas... 2 white gold to represent my husband and son and a rose gold for my daughter. Was planning on wearing them on my right hand but they may just go with this stack

A bench is the people who make the jewellery when you buy a diamond from a place where they set it or fabricate jewellery too.

Excellent! Keep us posted! This is the fun part!
You’re sure to end up with an amazing stone.

And it begins... Adam emailed me and I just gave him all the info. I also have a setting price from DK. Eeeek!

I just wanted to comment on size. In my area I'm not comfortable wearing larger sizes. What is a common size for where you live?
I'm currently trying to walk a fine line of getting something big enough so that I can enjoy the faceting pattern but not so big that I'm not
comfortable wearing it. I'm thinking 7.3mm would be a size that would fulfil both my needs but you need to figure out what that size is for
you. FYI...we have had people go too big and end up selling their stones (but it is rare).

We actually live on the border of a very affluent area and it’s not uncommon to see very large stones all over BUT we are middle class, and in my circle I would say 1/2-3/4ct is norm? I’m thinking 7mm would be ok but may take some getting used to. I’m the type of person who won’t buy a LV bag, even if I can afford it, because I don’t want others to think I’m snobby. I jus5 really like the bag but won’t get it :(2. Same thing with cars... I’ve wanted a certain one forever because I like it, not because of what it is but I’m afraid people would talk. That’s my own insecurity. This is a huge step for me but it’s our 20th anniversary and we’ve been through hell and back so I want something as sort of afresh start.

Oh...and now everyone has gotten back to me asking for more details so 8 should be getting some more info soon
