Diamond mining as TV drama.

If I had a TV, I'd watch it!

Sounds like a cool show Neil. I've tried my hand at diamond mining but only in Arkansas and on shore. It was hot, dirty, and we got a few ticks, a little bit of food poisoning as well. I remember being exhausted after 5 days and no diamonds. But I have to say it was an experience. You need some heavy equipment to find much and that is not allowed in Arkansas.

Midwater mining could make for some interesting TV. This is an offshore area that is too deep for practical dive-mining and too shallow for deepwater recovery ships. There are different approaches to gathering that gravel but it's always been a tricky prospect for mining companies. Someone really thought out of the box here; let's get some cowboys and a film crew together and make it like "The Deadliest Catch." I wonder if it will be cost-effective? It can certainly be dangerous...contrary to the gun laws referred-to in the poacher-trailer, I've heard numerous times that anyone driving a boat into someone else's concession off the coast of Namibia or SA risks being shot-at from shore.

Call me a cynic but the nagging voice in my head says the business venture here has more to do with the TV than diamonds. I suspect this is the case with "The Deadliest Catch" as well. I wonder if I could make a show of "'Extreme Jewelry Appraisals" or "American Gemologist". It kind of works for "The Antiques Roadshow" and "Pawnstars". :sun:

Hey Neil,

I agree with you about this being tv, and not a business-venture. But you thinking about a format around yourself sounds interesting.

Imagine a mixture of a reality-show and a game-show, where people get a budget for a jewel and the task to buy the best value-for-money. At the end, the appraiser (or team of) decides who has done best. Of course with cliff-hangers before the commercial break.

The winner may keep the jewel, and each episode can end with the winner giving the jewel to someone dear.

Live long,

Described as "an epic sea journey across the South African coast for precious diamonds," a new TV show, Diamond Divers, follows a motley crew of wild treasure hunters from the U.S. as they journey to diamond riches.

I've watched the first two episodes... The crew is a bunch of bumbling idiots with zero experience mining diamonds, but it is entertaining nonetheless!

I saw it on the line up but haven't tuned in as of yet. It prolly runs back to back with Swapmen ( or whatever that show is named) and that's why I haven't watched it yet....lol. Frankly, Housewives of Pricescopeville sounds like it would be far more interesting.
