Hi,

Just out of curiosity, I decided to test whether I can determine if diamond is nicely cut based on sight alone. In my quest, I found these two stones. I don''t know what to make out of them. I''m curious as of what this can be:

1- One looks just like a nicely cut piece of glass - I could see its "insides" by looking through the table. Could this be a synthetic diamond? or some other semiprecious stone?
2- Another one looked kind of milky - Like an elmer''s glue appearance - especially in sunlight. Is that caused by excessive fluorescence?
I looked through some prior posts - No, this is definitely not the frozen spit phenomenon.
Any thoughts on this one....

Do you have any pics.?

1st one sounds like a poorly cut stone but it hard to tell; do you have numbers?

The second one does sound like fluorescence. Can you ask for the certs so then you can verify your thoughts?

No pics. I was bored at lunch time and decided to go into a Diamond store at the NYC diamond district. I feel bad going back there for specs. I''m not really buying anything from there. I was just very curious to find out what this could be.
Thank you both for your responses.
