what does point equate to? i.e .03ct is that 3 points? is an 8 pointer .08 cts?

Yes, you're correct--.03 ct equals 3 points.

yes, by George I think you've got it! (my Henry Higgins moment!)

thanks i am getting estimates for a ring based off a photo and the estimate calls for 3 pointers and the the one in the photo are supposedly 8 pointers. will look very different dont you think?

here is the band

yes, I think that .03's will look much different from .08's. Are you going for a more delicate look, is that why the .03?

no--i just wanted the ring copied and that is what was proposed. (.03). I think it might be too much metal then

If this is going to be custom, I would imagine they'd be able to adjust the height of the setting and size of the honeycombs to suit the melee that you've chosen. The 3 pointers sound lovely. Unless they can quote in different size melee - just to get a comparison for size and prices. I like a lot of options before I make a final decision!

i want the stones as big as possible (well within reason) --i like to see the individual stones. I wonder if there is a huge price difference between .03 and .08? its about 52 stones F/G vs

WHOA. Has the person wearing this ring tried this on in person? I have short distances between my knuckes and I could not bend my finger with that puppy on and I know many women who have the same problem I do. Also sizing is a problem. With something that thick you would probably need to go one full size above your regular finger size (and maybe more, depending). So... if you are getting custom quotes I HIGHLY suggest hitting the local stores and trying on things that have the same width and seeing A) if it is comfortable and if it looks good and B) what size you need in something like that.

all great points. how wide does this look to you? the stones are .08/.09 and its a size 7 3/4

10mm-12mm to me.

oh wow

That photo is a pretty wide ring and that would be a standalone for me

pix are so hard to tell

Okay so let's break this down for you.

8 pointers are 2.75 mm.
So three rows = 8.25 mm for the stones alone. Plus six bezel sides for the metal height. Even if each bezel size is 1/2 a mm that's 3 mm. So at a minimum you are looking at 11.25 mm. But the stones are set staggered instead of on top of each other so... back down to 10mm. But since there are airlines between all the bezels that takes it back up to 11-12 mm.

That's how I calculated it. ;))

oooh you are good at this! thanks!

Bling math is the only kind I'm good at. If my algebra teacher had been talking carats instead of fractions I wouldn't have been an English Major.

hilarious! i am abysmal at math!

I am too, but it's honestly always been due to complete lack on interest not innate ability (my teacher's were right about that). So when something interests me enough, I can muster some basic skills. That level of interest just doesn't happen very often though.
