Has anyone noticed that your diamond looks whiter when it''s dirty? It''s funny, I was in a jewelry store looking at G-H colored diamonds. The one my friend was wearing was an H diamond, it was very dirty. When she held it up next to the clean G-H diamonds in the store hers looked whiter. The salesperson explained that when a stone get''s dirty it looks white, it''s not clear any longer which is what diamonds should be. The funny thing is I thought my friends stone looked better because it was whiter, even though it was dirty. Anyone else noticed this happening?

It depends on the dirt

Her dirt came from things like soap & shampoo. I hope the majority of people out there are smart enough to take off their rings when working in the garden.

yes - mostly when you examine the back of a diamond with a luope the dirt is white powdery or hand creamy white

but oil can lower the color
