I know this might be a silly post - but I''ve been noticing lately that my diamond has a silver/light blue tinge to it. I think I had noticed it before, but it has been on my mind more lately because a sales associate at a B&M store asked me if it was coloured/blue.

Granted, I think that it doesn''t look like a coloured diamond, but she did mention something that I''d already thought about a little.

Is there any reason that it would have that tinge? I know that it can reflect back the surrounding colours, and maybe because Toronto is grey and silver right now (thank you, Canadian winters) maybe that is why it is reflecting that colour?

Any ideas?

Here''s a link to my picture thread for a reminder - https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/im-new-and-engaged-here-are-the-pics.68459/

Thanks in advance!

Does it have flour?

Negligible

OK, couple o' things come to my mind...

#1 Well cut diamonds *can* (and should!) appear "silvery" in certain lighting environments. That's a good thing, and honestly, I LOVE that look!

#2 Is this new for your stone? As in, it wasn't there before and it's something you have only recently begun to notice? If so, you may have some kind of blue stain on it. I know it sounds weird, but I had a problem once with the melee stones in my band looking noticeably *blue*. It was very strange and even though I cleaned it well, it stubbornly remained. We never really did figure out what caused it,

but a thorough professional cleaning was able to remove it and the diamonds returned to looking beautifully white (and silvery

Thanks LynnB! Honestly, it only bothers me because I''m not sure if it is indicative of a problem or something - PLUS when the lady at the B&M asked me, I almost felt insulted! Shows what I know!

I''m happy to hear that it is normal with well cut diamonds - I wish I could get a picture of it to show you what I''m seeing but it is hard to capture!

Is it new? Well I''m not sure - could be. Could be that I"m just noticing it now. Could also be that the colours around me these days are the grey/silvers of winter.

Thanks for your input! I take it I shouldn''t worry?

Like I said, I wouldn''t worry AT ALL about "silver-y" -- but a blue cast (that''s not always been there) should probably be removed by a professional cleaning.

But... one other thing... don''t ever be insulted by what you are told in a jewelry store

as it''s quite possible that the salesperson has little to no true diamond experience or education, and/or has never seen a super well cut stone before. Sad but true!

Thanks Lynn...I''ll give it a good scrub and see - and in the meantime I''ll learn to appreciate the silver tint!
