Hello I am new to the Forum and are in need of some help.

I have been looking at diamonds for an engagement ring for the last few weeks and feel overwhelmed. I keep going back to the same diamond however i still have questions regarding the quality of the diamond. There is a 2.0 CT Round brilliant diamond that is a G,SI1, Excellent cut, polish and symmetry. The Florescence however is strong blue, however when i view the diamond i can not see the florescence at all and to me seems as though the diamond is brighter due to the florescence. Are florescence with this type of diamond a bad thing?

It's 2.4 HCA score instead of excellents, it has very good for light return, fire, scintillation, and spread.

You can do better.
 
Thank you for your reply. I was not aware of the HCA score until you said something. Do you recommend to go up in quality or to continue searching for in the same quality until I find a better HCA score? Do you have any recommendations online to search for diamonds besides Pricescope?
 
What is your price range?
 
10-18k. I would like to see options at different ends of the range before purchasing.
 
These should all be within the desired ranges by their numbers. You have to do HCA (which remember, is a tool to exclude stones, not to choose stones. Throw out over 2)

As a member of the trade, I can not speak about specific diamonds.

Instead let me ask you a question.

If a diamond is at or just barely across a significant price jump weight, such as 1 ct, 1.5 ct 2 ct etc, and it has an HCA of above 2, why might one think that is?

Could it be that such diamonds are cut to retain that magic price jump weight and be sold to those not alert enough to figure out that cut properly they would weigh less and thus cost MUCH less?

Could it be that there are tens of thousands of such diamonds on the market and that the big cutters do it on purpose, knowing that the average buyer will never figure it out?

Do some research, find some answers.

I'm in the trade, I cannot comment on specific diamonds but I wanted to address the fluorescence issue you brought up.

I try to never think about fluorescence in terms of 'good' or 'bad.' Instead, just like color or clarity, fluorescence is a trait of the diamond and the judgement of "good" or "bad" resides in personal preference for a particular look.

Many find fluorescence can 'enhance' the apparent color grade of some diamonds to appear brighter, but in certain circumstances can also create a milky or hazy look. The best advice is to get a qualified gemologist's opinion on the effect of the fluorescence before any purchases are made and/or examine the diamond in sunlight, standard indoor (not showroom) lighting and even black-lighting yourself, if possible. If there are positives (or negatives) they will likely show up as you examine the diamond more and more.

I will use the HCA value to exclude diamonds not to select diamonds.
