Diamond Help - Is this a good diamond

Hi all. I'm curious if this is a diamond I should purchase. I don't have an IS picture and not sure if I can obtain one. If you could provide a general pricing for diamonds of this quality is appreciated also.

Cut, Polish, Symmetry: Excellent

Slightly too steep in the pavilion angle for that crown angle. Might be ok with the large lower facet but would prefer to see an Idealscope image for it.
 
I ran the specs with the HCA calculator and it came back with 2.3 Very Good and it''s "recommended worth buying if price is right". Should I always aim for something that is excellent?

For the idealscope image, is this something all dealers have on hand or I''ll have to have someone run a report for it?

I''ll try to contact them and ask them for one. I just don''t want to be a hassle about it.

So based on the information I provided, it can''t be used to determine whether it''s a good stone or not. When I do get the picture is there some pointers on what I should be looking at?
 
Nevermind about the idealscope question. I found the answer to it.
 
This is actually what we call a steep deep on Pricescope, the crown and pavilion angles are not a good fit for each other, however as the angles are rounded the diamond might show leakage or not depending on which way the numbers are rounded, an Idealscope image would help to check the diamond out. The angles are the critical thing here rather than the lower girdle facets which might help but also might not save the diamond from leakage. Definitely get an Idealscope image if you can.

We once discussed my "steep/deep" - which is slightly worse than the one being described above.

The measurements of mine are:

Dimensions: 6.41x6.44x4.04mm
Table: 56%
Crown height: 15.5%
Crown angle: 35.5'
Star: 55%
Total depth: 62.8%
Pavilion depth: 43.5%
Pavilion angle: 41.2'
Lower half: 75%
Girdle: medium - slightly thick
Culet: none
Polish: excellent
Symmetry: excellent

Since we discussed my "steep/deep", I have scrutinised it in every way possible (and even used a pink scope thingy-wotsit to measure the light performance). In my case, I can find no leakage under the table when viewed under the scope. The overall light performance (brightness/fire/scintillation etc) is probably "very good" (but probably not "excellent").

But I would concede that steep/deep appears to be a risky area to buy without seeing the stone or without getting images.

Everything about the stone looks fine from a proportions perspective, so if the price is right, then I don''t see a reason as to why not to purchase it.

Thats good that you can't find any leakage! However yes, the steep deeps are risky so best to warn the consumer there can be leakage and other issues especially if no images so a proper evaluation can be done.

So you bought an Idealscope?

I used a scope, but don''t own one at present.
I''m not sure where to find a seller of the scopes in the UK. Most seem to be US-based.
Being a scientist, I have home-made a widget that works using the same principles of light return that the genuine scope uses.
 
I searched online for more info of idealscope images and was wondering what is consider acceptable. Should I aim for zero leakage or minor leakage is okay? Are diamonds made to be perfect or there are always some kind of flaw to them?

If you mean perfect concerning Idealscope images are, not all will show perfect images - but it depends on the level of cut quality you want.
