Hello!

I have a quick question. I''ve seen a couple of you look at table and depth
percentages, etc. and come back with a self-grading score on a diamond''s cut, if
I''ve understood correctly. Where are you finding these?

Thank you all so much!

A lot of the online vendors will give you the information you need on the diamond. Then we use this as a sort of filter HCA

Some people say anything which scores less than 2 on the HCA is a good contender diamond, but there are people who have diamonds which have scored over 2 which are beautiful too. It will help you to filter your selections somewhat, but ultimately your eyes are the best judge.

I think most of the threads you''re referring to have a bit more information than depth/table. Most require info about the crown/pavilion angles, as well at a minimum.

Most folks here use the HCA to plug in those number and get an idea if the stone is more or less likely to be a strong performer. It''s not a ''grading'' so much as it is a way to weed out stones that are less likely to exhibit top-shelf performance.

Thank you both very much! That was exactly the information that I was looking for.

Is there a similar tool out there for princess cut diamonds?

The above link is available in the KNOWLEDGE section of Pricescope in the article concerned with fancy shape diamonds. It leads to parametric cut screening for rounds and fancy shapes which have assisted many folks to find well cut diamonds. It may not be "perfect", but it will prevent a nearly all the errors which a novice could easily make. Put in the shape at the drop down menu, fill in the requested information and the Cut Class grade will magically be calculated.
