One look at the composition of the human body and I think the diamond would be of the frozen spit variety:
Element Percent by Mass
Oxygen 65
Carbon 18
Hydrogen 10
Nitrogen 3
Calcium 1.5
Phosphorus 1.2
Potassium 0.2
Sulfur 0.2
Chlorine 0.2
Sodium 0.1
Magnesium 0.05
Iron, Cobalt, Copper, Zinc, Iodine trace
Selenium, Fluorine

I'd pick neither one, using human skin for leather is creepy and weird and it's been proven more than half of the places that make diamonds/gemstones from the ashes of family members are scammers and it's not really true.

I really don't understand how/why anyone would want either - how does one rationalize that  No thanks. Memories are good enough for me.

Along the same lines though I sometimes wonder about people who have tattoos by renowned tattoo artists. Skin is like a tattoo artist's canvas. So is the tattoo'ed skin something that should be preserved after the person dies in order to preserve the artwork? Weird I know, but I wonder.....

There is an interesting Roald Dahl (from his Playboy days) short story about that.

Any conclusions reached? I'll have to check it out. I like the "short story" idea.

It is Roald Dahl for adult - the ending is cynical and not very happy. At least, not for the tattoo bearer.

It is much cheaper to buy a nature made diamond and a better quality material to boot.

Oh yes, now I know. I recognized the "Lamb to the Slaughter" story! Good thing my husband is such a doll. :naughty:

I once had this conversation:

Me: "You know I have a metal bracelet mandrel in the shop. Are you sure you aren't going to do the dishes?"
Him: "Yup. That thing would be too obvious and you know you would never get away with it. You are too clever."
Me: "Yes, I am also too clever to reveal the real plan to you, just a throw away plan to threaten you with."

The dishes got done.
