Hi - I have been researching diamonds for an engagement ring for my longtime girlfriend. We have gone to a few stores and she gravited to the cushion cut with a micro pave halo setting. She liked stones in the 2-2.5 carat range. While I can''t quite afford 2.5 I have done my research and can afford a 2 carat - about $20-=25k. That said I have been reading about the face of a diamond and how this can make a stone appear larger then it is. I have found a stone I am thinking of purchasing a 2.1 carat with an 8.35 x 7.05 face. Is this a larger or a smaller face? I don''t have much to compare to so wanted to get some opinions. Thanks for your help.

Hi diamondguy

Its hard to tell with fancy shapes as they can hold their weight differently, if you could post the proportions of the diamond such as depth, table, crown height, girdle thickness and so on and also any images you have of the diamond, then we can get a better idea to help you with this. Is the diamond for sale with an online vendor or jeweller? If online you might be able to request images such as ASET or Idealscope images and detailed photographs of the diamond. This page explains how these images work.

Also sometimes it isn't always a good thing to have a diamond look large for its weight if this comes at the expense of cut quality, look at the diamond as a whole.
