My bf and I finally got a diamond in to evaluate, but I just don't have any idea what I think of it or if we did ok on it. Because I used up all my "requests" on the previous diamonds I looked at before I saw this one, I only have my own information I've made and that of the GIA report to go on. Should we keep or return it and start again? Y'alls far more experienced eyes would be greatly appreciated.

here's what I like and dislike: Size is perfect. Fluorescence is a bonus. It seems to do nicely in fluorescent lighting conditions. Possible dislikes: J color could be problematic. (I didn't realize I was a hint color sensitive. I'm ok down to I but then I get picky, it seems.) This one seems more "splintery" than the other RB I looked at in terms of color and light play, but I may be getting used to it. My bf has similar opinions on it, except for color, which he can't see at all and that he seems to prefer the cut on vintage stones better because the larger facets give him a chance to actually see light play in a stone that he would otherwise have difficulty seeing due to his specific vision issues.

Shape: Round
Carat weight: 0.82
Cut: Excellent
Color: J
Clarity: VS1
Certificate: GIA
Depth: 61.5%
Table: 57.0%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle: Medium
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Faint
Measurements: 6.01*6.02*3.70

HCA score was 1.9, so on the borderline for performance possibilities.

Here are some pics. I also took a little video GOG style but need to figure out if I can post something like that here.

My little idealscope pic I took with my phone:

If you are not happy with the J color now- I think that "picky-ness" with the color will only grow over time- in my opinion. I don't think you should feel like you settled for soemthing you don't love.

What is your budget- we would be mroe than happy to help you find a stone in budget :)

there is nothing 'wrong' with the diamond but it seems that you might prefer the antique style?

Thank you for the replies. Our stone budget is around 3K-ish. Every day it seems to grow another hundred or so dollars so I need to put a stop to that. :). J's seem to be a case by case basis for me. I don't have problems with any I's I've seen. I don't even have any real problem with this stone, really, except my own annoying second guessing.

I think mostly I just have gotten paranoid because I made the decision on it for us without any gemologists help, based on just the picture and info I could acquire with the numbers (and info from here and places like GOG) and so I don't trust myself. My other problem is I haven't seen a stone yet I hate, but then again, nothing overawes me either. I like the old and the new, for different reasons. It seems there's going to be pros and cons no matter which way I go with it when I start working through the logistics.

I took this pic of it earlier at the jewelry store we're getting the ring at. I moved when I snapped it so a couple of facets got shadowed, but I've taken all these pics with my phone because it's easy to upload and thought it was still a cool pic.
