Hi guys - long time no post, I''m hoping to be ''edumacated'' again, or at the very least looking for opinions (my hubbie is useless for things like this)...I''m looking to purchase some diamonds to be made into stud earrings..and I''m wondering from a color, clarity and size standpoint, what you think would be best (budget is somewhat of a factor considering I plunked down some serious green for my recent e-ring upgrade)?. Colorless, eyeclean and not looking too small on the ears are top considerations..I think I''ve got cut (hopefully) under control based on everything I learned the last time around...I''ve picked these two out from Whiteflash..what do you guys think? How ''low'' in color and clarity can I go and still have colorless (white), eyeclean sparklers?

Thanks as always!

I believe some people would say that stud earrings is a place where you could sacrifice a little more and get away with it.

For example...clarity...How many people are going to get up in your face and look at your ears that close to see a tiny speck in your diamonds. I would definately go SI1-2 there if you could.

Overall, earrings are least accessible to be scrutinized of diamond jewelery. The diamonds you picked out are winners...but you could probably go down to G or H and not have to worry about the color issue...unless your real sensitive to color.

I agree with Wonka that you could even go down in color for earrings. My studs are H and I love them. I would ask Whiteflash if they think those two would make a good pair for earrings. They look like nice stones.

Thanks for the feedback Wonka and Sundial - I appreciate it! This was just what I was looking for

Those look like killer stones and they will make KILLER earrings! YOWSA!

A few random thoughts, however...

I have a pair of studs, ~.90 tcw, super ideal cut H&A stones set in a 3-prong martini setting. They are gorgeous and I wear them almost every day. They are both totally eyeclean SI stones; one is a J and one is a K and honestly, I cannot tell them apart! They are both quite white and full of life, sparkling from edge to edge.

Second of all, .50 is a benchmark size in diamonds, and prices rise significantly. By buying slightly under that size (in my case .45''s) they LOOK like half-carats, but I saved a LOT of money!

Now, have fun... diamond studs are AWESOME!

WOW Lynn - they sound great! I''m like you in that I love diamond studs - I wear them all the time..can''t be bothered by a lot of other options for the most part. I''ve got smaller ones and some bigger ones...and even wear a pair of CZs (the horror!) from time to time. The size I wear the most is my pair of .5s (the diamond posers

), which is why I''m looking for a new pair...Thanks for the tip for ''just under'' .50s. I''ll see what I can come up with through WF on these two particular ones as well as some others that would be in the vicinity.

Thanks again!

You should call someone at Whiteflash and ask them to keep an eye out for you. I worked with Renee when picking out my studs and she found a set of matching ones that didn''t come up together for me on the computer.

I totally agree with Lynn. I have a set of I, SI1/VS2, .39 each studs and they are AMAZING! Spakle like mad.

Definitely get the help though...they know their inventory better.

CadyCat...did you look at their expert selection ready made earrings. I believe it is called "Ready Set Go" earrings. I think you get uncerted earrings, but they will still be fantastic. Whiteflash is in the business of selling quality items...even if not ACA.

Thanks Scarlet and Wonka...I''m working with Whiteflash now and here are a few of the pairs of diamonds I''m mulling over...they''re all fairly close in size with slight differences in their numbers and where any inclusions may be. I''d love to hear what anyone would weigh in with on these:

Thanks for all the help!

With all things being equal...that being they are all ACA's, I'm not going to sit here and analyze each stone for perfection. They will all be plenty beautiful for earrings...without question.

If this were my project, I would work with group 1. As I said, these are all fantastic stones, but that first group does two advantages. One, it puts you in the best color your looking at...compared to the G's in group 2. But more importantly, in my book at least, you have found great value staying under the .5 mark. And those stones will all look the same size. There is too little difference to see a difference, IMHO.

Heck, with the money you are saving in #1, you could practically buy yourself another stone for a pendant

Good luck...can't wait to see what you decide.

PS - Before I posted, I just looked. There is also an E SI2, the exact same carat weight as the E SI1 in group one. It is cheaper than the F diamond, and if eye clean...would be a great find for earrings as well. Size, color, and performance should be extremely complimentary, and that is most important with studs. The clarity you would probably be ok with. Anyway...just something I saw that I thought I'd suggest.

Wonka - I love your thinking!

Thanks for the tip on the E SI2, I must have missed that one somehow. I''ll let you know what I decide...and in the meantime I''ll start looking for a pendant - ha!
