diamond earrings re-do...can this be done???

what a wonderful forum here! i love reading and learning about my favorite things-diamonds. here''s my dilemma" i have a pair of 18k white gold diamond earrings, in a flower shape, a center stone surrounded by several diamonds, tcw 2.64. they are in a post setting. the problem is that i rarely wear them, had them custom made and they are a little "big" for my earlobes, a little much for everyday wear.
would it be possible to add/solder(sp?) some type of leverback to them to make them dangly earrings instead of posts? would this be possible? would the diamond earring part be secure if this is done? any thoughts? thank you!

It is hard to say without seeing them but I have had several earrings with posts made in to leverbacks. My jeweler just added a little mount at the top and put them on the leverbacks. They turned out pretty good. I like dangle earrings better than large post earrings. I like my post earrings to be pretty small (usually 4 mm).

thank you marcy. i am quite computer illiterate and cannot seem to reduce my file size to show pics of them? i am also presently helping teen-age son finish a paper(ugh) i''ll keep trying. thanks-i hope if i can show the pics,it will give me a clear-cut answer if this is feasible. they are gorgeous earrings but only are worn on special occasions and the idea just popped into my lil'' ole head today.

It sounds like you can definitely have them converted/re-made into leverback earrings. Either that style, or another idea might be to attach them to a vertical row of stones or just a wire with a diamond stud on top, if that makes sense. I.e., the "old" earring would be dangling from a stud followed by a line of 5-6 stones depending on proportion and size of the stones in your original earring, etc. I''ll see if I can find a pic representing what I''m thinking of.

Obviously this is not a close representation (since your earrings are a cluster of diamonds in a flower shape and not squared like these), but this is what I was thinking when I suggested a post/diamond at the top to go into your earlobe and followed by a line of stones leading down to the actual original earring.

My boyfriend bought me a pair of square pave earrings that I love, but they were too big from my ears (I sleep with my earrings on and they hurt me) so I had them reset on leverbacks (some jewelers call them "euro loops" go fig) It cost me $75 at my local shop and took a week. I had them put right on the earring though, they don''t dangle, that would require an extra loop and it wasn''t the look I was going for, but he offered to do it without extra charge. They fit a lot better now. Definitely worth it!

Definitely, it can be done. I just did it. Actually, I had two 1 c each studs made into leverbacks and I love how they dangle and catch the light.

Open your files with software such as Paint or Photoshop (or any other photo-editing software) and use the resize function to make the photos smaller. With Paint, the resize function is called "stretch/skew", but with photo-editing software there should just be a function called resize. Have your kid help you out, that''s what he''s there for!
