I am getting my grilfriend some surprise diamond earrings for Christmas (probably studs...but would consider other options). Bottom line, I have about $900 to spend. What do you guys think I should do? Any advice would be most appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Bill Johnson

Hi Bill and welcome!

I would check out the Whiteflash preset Ready Set to Go stud earring range. The hard work of finding diamonds to match is done for you, so that might be an option.

http://www.whiteflash.com/Fine-jewelry/Diamond_Studs/Four-Prong-Basket--READY-SET-TO-GO_822.htm

The only thing is that the RSG aren't upgradable if that is ever a consideration.

Alternatively check out the other vendors such as Good old Gold, James Allen and Wink Jones to see what they have for preset studs.

Would it be better to buy two loose diamonds and then have them set? Or is this too much trouble for the price? I am also in the market for an engagement ring....probably purchased in late ''08.....with a price range of about $20,000. Therefore, I would like to use the earrings as an opportunity to get more acquainted with some excellent vendors, etc. Once again, all advice is much appreciated!!

Happy holidays,

Bill Johnson

I ditto the RSTG from WF. If you could possibly knock that budget up to 1060.00, you can get her the .75 ctw in WG. Perfect!

Excellent suggestion from my colleague as usual!

And Bill, this is a great way to get acquainted with '' the process'' of buying diamonds!

Not really, you''d have to go smaller, and the setting would eat up too much of the budget.

And yes, I think you''ll be quite pleased with this set. And it will "warm you up" for the big one.

Very nice. Wish I could get about .70 tcw in color H and clarity VS2! Is this a matter of due diligence involving my search? Also, can you get any specs on the cut when buying preset diamond stud earrings? Like everyone else....want them to have that extra sparkle.

Thanks again for all advice....and I''m sure my girlfriend would be thankful as well...as my budget may have now gone up to $1060

With the RSTG earrings Bill, they are preset with Expert Selection diamonds which are specially chosen, so you know they are well cut diamonds which will definitely have the sparkle factor! It is a very easy way to approach it.

Sorry your budget has increased...

By the way, anyone have an opinion on which setting looks the best...ie.....four prong vs 3-prong martini???

There seems to be a large concensus on here, in favor of the 3 prong martini. And for good reason. They fit so perfectly in/on the ear. Kinda look like they're just "floating" there. LOVE them.

As for specs, you'd have to ask WF, they may be able to give you some, not sure. But I do know, as Lorelei pointed out, they are great stones. NO worries.

(and at this size, the color should not be an issue)
