Diamond earring size help

Hi Everyone, I am in need of some assistance. I''ve had the same pair of diamond earring for 8 years. I was thrilled when my husband purchased them from a local jewelers. I have discovered over the years that they are poorly cut and I can see the difference. They are 1.14 ctw and face up as 5.1mm each. They are deep. I am looking to upgrade the quality and size. I am not into big earring and need them for every day wear with small kids. Will I see a difference if I go to 5.3mm. Again, I don''t want them much bigger as I won''t wear them. I am really looking for a quality upgrade and getting the correct millimeter size for the carat weight. I am just wondering if I will notice the size difference from 5.1mm to 5.3mm? Thanks so much.

Depending on how bad the cut of the present stones are, you could even think a well cut stone of the same diameter looks bigger than the present stones.

Thanks for your reply stone cold. They are deep and face up small for their weight. I am wondering if I should go with a smaller carat size and stick to AGS0 5.1mm diamonds or go with AGS0 5.3mm size earrings of the same carat weight. Will it be noticable? I certainly don''t want them any bigger than that though....

There would be a small difference with direct comparison, if you concentrate on getting well cut diamonds you will have the beauty you want and the proper face up size will be there as a byproduct of a great cut.

Both gems are the same diameter and could be cut from the rough diamond. The well cut diamond on the left weighs 0.84ct and the dull drab stone weighs 1.00ct. Because it is a carat it will sell for more.

Thank you Lorelie and Stone Cold for your time. I cannot get over the difference in those two stones. The smaller well cut stone looks larger. My earrings are E SI1 and they go dark in certain lighting because of the poor depth. We spent a lot of money for those earrings and I feel we got ripped off but that was back in the day when we knew nothing about cut. I think I will put these earrings away for my daughter since I will never recoup the money I paid for them. Now, if I could just figure out what mm size to go with!
