I haven't been there in a while but what are some of your recommendations for the "Top Merchant"?

I would highly recommend you drive past the diamond district towards Massapequa Park, Long Island and visit Good Old Gold (http://www.goodoldgold.com). The prices are great, there's no high-pressure sales pitches or haggling, the stones are top notch, and the store is full of friendly people who will help you find whatever you're looking for.
