Hi there, will a diamond that is worn everyday, be of a lesser shine and sparkle compare to one that is rarely worn? Considering the condition after washing the daily worn, and both diamond are free from scratches. And one more question, will cleaning the diamond with mild soap and water, with a soft bristle toothbrush scratch the diamond? is it advisable to do so frequently? tks

Everything sticks to diamonds. Hand cream, dirt etc. This will affect the way a diamond looks. Cleaning as you have described will help but professional cleaning by a jeweler is much better. They have high pressure steam, ionic and ultrasonic cleaners that really do the job.

Only another diamond can scratch a diamond, a toothbrush is fine and recommended.

Also, remember that other gemstones are not nearly as durable as diamonds. You can not clean them the same way.

Diamonds need to be washed or they begin looking dull very fast. For mine I wash it with my face cleaner (if it''s safe for my skin, it should be for my diamond!) and use a soft baby tooth brush.

I agree with MC. I have one of those jewelry cleaner solution by my bathroom sick. Every morning, before I go to work, I put it in there to soak for a few minutes (container says 10 secs, but i want to make sure it''s really clean) and use a soft brush that came with the cleaners and scrub the ring all over. Afterwards, I rinse it off and blow dry it since I don''t like water spots and my ring sparkles like crazy! Of course, the jewelers will be able to do it better, but I think it keeps my diamond looking really close to day one.

There is no problem with cleaning your diamonds daily. I soak my daily wear rings while I''m taking my daily shower. Then a little scrub with a soft brush, and we are both ready to go.

Another way to dry your diamond is by using tissue wrap (like the kind presents are wrapped it). It doesn''t leave lint on the diamond.

I use Hagerty''s Jewelry Cleaner a few times a week on my rings. It comes with a little brush that works really well at getting between the prongs and such. I buy it at a local hardware store (old place that carries lots of oddities) and one container ($5 or so) lasts me a year.

A daily cleaning isn''t excessive.

A good ultrasonic cleaner is a great investment if budget allows.

I have an ornate gallery basket on my ring and I was having a devil of a time finding a brush small enough for it, even baby toothbrushes were too big. But I discovered that a long-handled, angled, liquid eyeliner brush is perfect for getting in there. I use one from Smashbox. Well-made and won''t lose fibers into your diamond''s setting.

I scrub it with mild dish soap every morning and blow it dry.

That''s a great idea! thanks
