Ok everyone here goes..... I would like to know what you all think for this the ring that I am looking at purchasing has these measurements table of 60% and depth of 60% and a small cutlet size the polish and symmetry were good. There was no info on the angles and such. The stone itself is rated a VVS1-2 1.54 carat round diamond, color J. What would be the most that you would pay for that and what kind of briliiance and fire can you expect in your opinion? I looked on idealscope.coms rating website using the angels that were preset and it said excellent on all parts, what do you all think!!
Let me know!

Sorry, but you can''t use HCA with just the depth and table and then use the preset angles.

julie is right. having the exact angles of your stone is extremely important in the accuracy of the result. using anything else is absolutely meaningless.

So what does it mean when on a GIA report that additional clouds not shown and surface graining not shown?

The fact that the stone is "rated" with a split clarity grade seems to suggest that it does not have a lab report. Without a report from a major lab you are really just relying on the sellers opinion.

60/60 used to be the basic benchmark in the trade for a very well made round.

You can easily get an idea of the market for well made 1.5ct rounds J VVS by doing searches on websites with certified diamond inventory. However, you may not be comparing apples to apples if the stone you are considering does not have a lab report. Stones of this size and grade are normally certified. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, the fact that this stone does not have a report would be a red flag.

Thank you! it was actually rated VVs1 I added that myself. The information came from and appraiser named Christopher CAble in WV.
Thanks!
Anyone else got ideas?

So the stone does have a GIA report (?). If you list all the specs it will be easier for people here to advise you.

The clouds and surface graining are often characteristics that are noted but not plotted, as they make a mess of the plot of an otherwise microscope clean stone (VVS). Generally they are for identification purposes and do not have much bearing on performance.

I don''t think you''re going to see a lot more ideas. Without the angles and more info, the experts can''t tell you what it''ll look like. If you post the diameter, we can tell you if the spread is about what you''d expect. Other than that, VVS1 means you''ll likely not see any inclusions. Asking what people would pay for it here is tough, most people here wouldn''t buy a stone w/o quite a bit more info. Not just more measurements, but reflector images and even BS or ISEE2 results, etc.

It''s sort of like asking "How much would you pay for a 2000 Toyota? It''s blue with brown interior."

How old is the GIA cert? Is there a cut grade at least?

Sorry, I do not mean to confuse everyone here. The question about the surface graining question was about a report that I recieved on one of my other diamonds. I just thought that it would be more time effecient to ask on this thread rather than starting anew one. I was not sure what that meant! Your answer was fine gemmy one!! I appreciate it. I am really having alot of fun learning from everyone! I am even tempted to see about becoming a certified gemologist!
