Two diamonds with the following

.54
Signature Ideal Cut
D color
EX polish
VS2 Clarity
Faint Fluorescence
EX Symmetry
Depth 62%

.66
Very Good Cut
G Color
EX polish
VS1 clarity
No Fluorescence
EX symmetry
Depth 62%

Does the size increase justify the drop in color and cut? Both are roughly the same price. This is for an engagement ring
From my understanding, the order of importance is cut, color, clarity. If .12 increase in size doesn't afford much I'd prefer to go with quality over size.
There is another stone that is about the same price at the is .7 with an H color and very good cut(vs2)

Any recommendations or personal opinions welcome

thanks

Which lab graded these stones? What shape is the stone? Post the report number?

They are off of blue nile so I think they use GIA.

round cut

Not sure how to find the number you're looking for.

and the .54 diamond is VS1 not VS2, as posted in the inital

I think BN usually has a pdf of the certificate on the page with the diamond specs.

Personally, I'd go for the excellent cut over the larger diamond.

I have a princess which is GIA certed so I don't have any info on cut and I've always regretted not having made sure I got an excellent stone.

The .55 you linked is D VS2.

I agree with slg that I'd recommend going with the largest ideal cut you can find with G VS2. I am assuming the stone budget is $3000 judging from your selections?

Blue Nile has a few around .62 G VS2:

http://www.bluenile.com/round-diamond-1-carat-or-less-ideal-cut-g-color-vs2-clarity_LD02139824

But in doing a quick search, you could save considerable money (like $500!) by buying WhiteFlash's top quality ACA stone which is even upgradable:

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2649038.htm (pricescope member/wire price $2432.)

or you could go up to .70 G VS2 with this Premium Select stone which is discounted due to getting excellent instead of ideal on polish which is perfectly fine!

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2657810.htm ($3095)

Go Whiteflash and save yourself the money! Go largest G/H ACA or Premium Select cut in your budget.

Edit - that G that DS pointed out would be lovely and a great size!
