Hey, everyone. Finally jumped in and joined the fun. Was wondering if you could help me out with the attached stones. They are all pretty much within my budget and have what I am looking for as far as the 4C's and X-X-X grading. I can't see too many differences between the lowest and highest priced stones, so I wanted to ask for your help. I have not chatted with any J.A. people yet (to ask for IdealScope readings). Thanks!!

Bump for more looks. Just asking for a little help. Thanks.

You might want to run them through the HCA tool.
Any thing that scores 2 or under is worth a look.

Edit...I cant bring up all the reports right now but going by the pictures none of them look good.

If you give your budget and desired specs someone can help
you find some nice choices.

What makes them not look good?...just curious.

Budget is $6,000 to about $7,500 for the stone. Looking for a round, x-x-x, in the 1.25-1.4ct range. From what I've read on these boards, an I color would work if the clarity is around SI1 ( with the xxx). Is that even feasible? Thanks.

Stones 2, 3 and 4 have leakage under the table.

Stone 1 has a glassy look which might just be the picture.

My tablet is acting up and I cant seem to bring up any reports or
I would look for some.

All 4 have hca's <2 , so that's good.
I personally don't like twinning wisps across the table, so 3 is out.
1st one will save you some money. It's a nice s1.
2nd one is good imho
4th one seems to have the most flash in the video and of course it's the most expensive.

I'd ask ja to send pictures of the three and ask one of their gemologists, their professional opinion.
Have you thought about any other vendors too? Whiteflash, Bluenile, etc? If you find stones in a couple more places, that will help with confidence before pulling the trigger. Also, fyi in an I color sometimes florescence can help the stone look more white.

I don't like the look of #1. It doesn't look as transparent as it should and according to the report the clarity grade of SI1 is based on clouds not shown which isn't a good thing.

#2 looks to have a brown tint to it that I would ask the vendor about.

#3 is probably my favorite of these.

#4 Is spready and will be a bight stone but will sacrifice some fire with a low crown like that.

Here are some other options in your budget.

1. Ask about the crystals under the table and whether they are visible to the naked eye. If they have more images that would be nice too. Cut looks great though plus medium blue fluoro is nice.

2. Higher clarity that should be very clean and with a smaller table if that is something you might like.

3. Another option for a bigger stone if you don't mind a dark inclusion. Remember this is VS2 so you shouldn't even be able to see that without a loupe.

If you post exactly what you are looking for we can help you out with stones tailored to what you want. Which of the c's (clarity, color, cut, carat) are most important to you? Most here will urge you to put cut as the most important and I would agree, though I am not in the camp that thinks it needs to be absolutely perfect (branded hearts and arrows superideals). But, give us an idea of what you want most in the diamond and we will help you find the balanced stone you can afford and love.

Thanks everyone. I would say cut is the most important (x-x-x), but I'd also like at least 1.25ct (round). I've been primarily looking on James Allen, as I already have an account and credit line set up there. Again, my budget is probably maxed at around $8k for the stone.

Thanks for taking some time to help, tyty. Those all look great and the one you picked (with one VG rating) makes me think that I am limiting myself by initially looking at only Ex-Ex-Ex stones. Might go back to the drawing board, but you've definitely helped open my eyes a bit more.

So are you wanting us to look at james allen inventory only? I think you're limiting yourself on your possibilities by doing so, but if that is what you prefer that's where we will look. And forgive me if you've already said, but are you looking to buy a setting online as well?

Yes -- sticking with James Allen right now. I have a setting picked out, also from JA.

I can't seem to paste the link, but it's a French-cut pave $595. Sku is 17158w14. 0.19ct, G-H.

The third one you just posted is the only decent one. Are these your only options?

Seriously, it's important that the HCA be less than or equal to 2.0. The third one is fine, though, if it's your only option for further consideration.

Reserve the 3rd one and request an idealscope for it.

Aim for the following...
crown angle between 34.0-35.0
pavilion angle between 40.6-41.0
Table between 53-58%
Depth max of like 62.5%

A good way to quickly weed out in James Allen is to set the table and depth parameters (in the advanced search)
Then only look at the reports of diamonds that look like that third diamond (clean, black arrows). That "look" is mostly only achievable for diamonds that meet or are close to the criteria above.

Thanks, teobdl. Those are some that are in my price range and have the size/cut/color I am looking for. I chatted with a rep earlier and the only one they could NOT offer an I.S. for is the exact one you noted, #398254. They said that it was "outside of our diamond district".

I actually liked that one the most, on paper. Would it be crazy to buy that one (eventually) without viewing an IdealScope?

Some here will say yes you are crazy to not have an idealscope image... I don't agree. Yes, it is helpful. No, it is not necessary. JA has a great return policy so if your EYES don't love it, you can return it. I would ask their help to find diamonds they feel are as good or better that have an image. They will want you to love it as they don't want to pay for returns. So absolutely you should use all the resources possible to get it right on the first try, but I wouldnt rule out what appears to be your best lead just because you can't see an idealscope image. Let your eyes decide if you love it.
