Hi everyone!

So I''m currently looking at diamonds (just for fun), and am wondering if a H or I colored diamond is still a quality diamond? Do H/I diamonds show color?

Thanks!

Hi Litlover. You might get more responses if you post this in Rocky Talk.

How much color you see in a diamond varies from person to person. H/I should generally face up white. On Pricescope cut is king so that is what you want to look for first is an ideal cut diamond. Some of the posters here have ideal cut J diamonds that face up white.

I dont believe the QUALITY of a diamond is tied in any way to its color and I am not alone in this. Color is a preferential thing like whether you prefer a black belt or a brown belt - neither is better other but you may favor one over another. Quality is tied only into cut and clarity and yes, Rocky Talk would be a better choice for this discussion.

Nope, you are not alone.

OP, color is just a personal preference. Some color-sensitive folks like very white stones (DEF), some people perfer the warmer
champagne/buttery colors of lower colored diamonds (J/K and lower). For best bang for your buck and still very white, stick
with G/H (and I should be fine too although you may see a hint of color). Make sure you are selecting only well cut diamonds.

Have fun looking!

BTW, I have a D and a J and can appreciate just about any color in a well cut stone.

If you are asking if H or I diamonds are still colorless. then yes. Depending on the cut (the better the cut quality, the whiter/ more colorless the stone will look). If you are asking if the color itself speaks to the quality of the stone, then that is really more of a personal opinion. Many people love, or even prefer, warmer color stones. Good luck to you in your diamond search!

Not sure what you mean about quality?
As far as showing color, everyone sees it a bit differently. I can see some tint in I''s but H''s look white to me. But even then, it depends on the size of the stone. If money wasn''t an issue, I''m one of those that would have gone with a D, E because I appreciate the lack of any color in diamonds.

Go see some diamonds for yourself graded by AGS or GIA and decide your own color preferences.

I am like Tyty in that I like all the different appearances of colorless and near colorless stones. A J is NOT an F, but it has a different beauty that many appreciate. Same goes for I color. Just don''t buy a lower color expecting a truly colorles rock, you will be disappointed by the warmth and the chameleon-like characteristics of the I/J color family.
