Hello,
I have a question. I recently purchased a Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows Diamond. It is J color. Yesterday I was outside for awhile and looked down at my diamond, and it looked kind of a light blue color. Today, I was walking outside and looked at my diamond, and it looked kind of a light lavender color. Later, it had clouded over slightly, and the diamond looked normal. Is the color I'm seeing normal? The AGS grading report (CAGS-104071853035) says fluorescence is negligible, so I'm guessing it has nothing to do with fluorescence? Thanks.

Do you have access to a blacklight or UV torch? Perhaps a shop with a banknote checker?

At the moment I don't have access to any of those items. I'm hoping the diamond grading report is accurate, as I wanted a diamond without fluorescence. Should I be concerned that the grading report is not accurate? Thanks.

You don't know yet that what you're seeing is fluorescence, so I wouldn't jump to any conclusions about the grading report being inaccurate. If you don't have a blacklight, take it to a jeweler to check. They have little penlights that will show fluorescence (a real jeweler, not a mall store). The most likely thing that is happening is that you're seeing a reflection of the environment in the diamond (the sky, whatever shirt you were wearing, etc).

My diamond does not have fluorescence but I have seen it look sort of blue in some outdoor settings. I think it's perfectly normal in outside lighting.

Hi Cricketcat,

It could be the stone was picking up the blue from the sky and that is what you were seeing, diamonds pick up all sorts of colours which is quite usual. In some bright sunlight, you might notice your stone looks darkish which again is normal and not a cause for concern. I doubt it is to do with fluorescence especially as it's one of Brian's, but it is possible I suppose your ' negligible' could be borderline ' faint' perhaps which might be discernible if conditions were right.

But I wouldn't worry, my bet is it is the sky that you were seeing in your diamond, you have a rare and stunning gem there which will give you an incredible show of colours and behaviours, enjoy!!!

Here is Belle's H colour stone with no fluorescence, reflecting the blue of the sky. Is this similar to what you are seeing?

Yes, it is similar to that photo, but not that bright. I chatted with someone at Brian Gavin's this morning. They told me it was the color of the sky/reflection that I was seeing, and that the stones are checked a couple of times, so it wouldn't be fluorescence. I wondered about that where it was one of their Hearts and Arrows signature diamonds. So, I'm going to go with that. Thanks for all your responses.
