Hi PS friends! I am sure this situation has occurred somewhere in the forum, but asking all of you is so much easier than searching! I was wondering the best way to handle the logistics of buying a diamond at one vendor and the setting at another. Is it best to have them both shipped and have a local jeweler set the diamond? Is it possible to have the setting shipped to the diamond vendor for the purpose of setting? Or vice versa? Is this something that anyone would take offense to? Should one be open and upfront or try to handle a little more discreetly? Has anyone done this? How did it all work out? I don''t want to offend either vendors.

most folks will have the setting shipped to the diamond vendor for them to set, the diamond vendor will usually take responsiblity for your stone where the setting vendor probably won''t. you might have a hard time finding a local jeweler you didn''t buy your setting from set a stone that you didn''t buy from them either. I will say though, if you are purchasing a designer setting then I''d have the vendor selling the setting send your stone to the designer and let them set your stone. it''s really best though if it''s at all possible to get the stone and setting at the same place, just plain easier. the PS vendors have all probably worked together at one time or another so i don''t think any of them would be offended however you decided to do it.

It depends on who the vendors are and what kind of setting it is. If it is a designer setting and the designer sets the stone, then the stone has to be sent to the setting vendor to send to the designer. Or, if not, then you can have the setting sent to the diamond vendor to set, but you''ll pay a setting fee. Yet the diamond is still covered in their possession.

I would not buy a setting from an online vendor unless it cannot be purchased anywhere else or unless I bought it from the diamond vendor.

Okay, there MrsS and I go....posting the same thing at the same time again!
