Hi again! I am in the process of buying a diamond..I have the IdealScope and ASET images and AGS lab grading report and have seen the diamond in person. Is a diamond appraisal still required?

Another question: has anyone ever done a blend of Platinum? I read somewhere that 90 Pt/10 Iridium mix is more shiny than 950% Pt. Could anyone shine some light on this topic?

If you just want an appraisal for insurance purposes, you can usually use the one the jeweler gave you. Provided of course it's not overly inflated because then you'll just be paying higher premiums for no reason.

Regarding the 90pt/ir mix. My Sholdt is that mix, while my other platinum mixes are 95tpt/ru. For the most part, there's really no difference. It's all about how hard you are with your rings.

But, I tend to agree that for some reason, my Sholdt is still shinier than my RU mix. Dunno why but it is. However, it's platinum and does develop a patina regardless of the mix. If shiny is important to you, then maybe white gold would be the better choice? Otherwise, you'll find yourself having your platinum ring polished all the time.

thanks! Elle Chris. i will go with 900 Pt 100 Ir :)
