Hi all

Great forum with heaps of information howeverever I think it has confused me a little. I am after a princess cut diamond, on yellow gold solitare setting for my girlfriend on a budget of about 5k with maximum 6k.

I prefer to get the largest stone in my budget (1 carat if you ask my girlfriend) however would like it to be of good quality as my girlfirend (like most) will look at it all day long.

As I am looking for a yellow gold setting and have heard that this can make a diamond look a little yellow - although with the prongs being white gold this solves this problem correct? I guess part of my problem is that I have been going in to change stores for research and when the sales assistant holds two different coloured diamonds next to each other there is a slight difference in colour. Any other time I wouldn't be able to tell. The other problem of going in to chain stores is their prices are....well...pricey!

I am in Australia and have been looking on http://www.jogiadiamonds.com.au/ due to it being in Aus but after reading good experiences of people importing from the US I am open to that.
One diamond I have been looking at on jogiadiamond is this one below however I am not sure if it is the best bang for buck. Also the girdle as being extremely thin which is susceptible to damage I believe?

Again I am a newbie and would appreciate any suggestions or advice

Cheers
Lorenzo

Depends on where the extremely thin part of the girdle is and what kind of setting you want. If it is at the corner, definite chipping risk. This is not Jogia's in-house stone right? If so, no point calling it in. If it is, then there will be other images, info available that we can use to get an idea of it's performance.

Hi Stone-cold11

Unfortunately this is not one of the stones they keep in house and would have to be called in. They didn't have much to offer in regards to in house diamonds when I checked last. There are so many diamonds to chose from. It is hard not to be indecisive when finding one diamond then seeing another. I suppose it is a matter of research then finding one that seems to be best bang for buck and bitting the bullet as such.

I haven't seen a H colour diamond but I imagine I couldn't tell the difference between them. Though really nice I think something like that would push me over budget once adding import tax and diamond setting. I had a look at others but couldn't find something that would fit my budget unfortunately.

This is another diamond listed on Jogia for $5,500 that looks to be of good qualtity and value - could you let me know your thoughts please? Helps me to know if I am actually on the right learning curve! Thanks again!
