Has anyone ever just fiddled around with DiamCalc numbers to try to see what makes a Princess Cut look nice? Seems like someone could write some kind of program to just run the numbers through DiamCalc "forever" using what programmers call "brute force" to find out what the sweet spots are. Any thoughts?

Hi JulieN. Thanks for replying. Care to share the charts with the class?

don''t have them (they''re for the cutters'' usage.) you can find a few excerpts on here. there exists a chart for different table size, and within each table size, for 2, 3, and 4 chevroned stones. as well, the chart contains the 2nd crown and pavilion angles (which have no analogue on a round brilliant,) numbers which are not found on standard lab reports.

AGS generated its charts using diamcalc to make squillions of Princess cut ASET images for proportion sets, and placed them all in big spread sheets so they could see the good red zones and avoid the bad too blue, and too green zones.

they are doing the same for a variety of other cuts - it is their first step to establish the best of the best for their existing cuts they are attempting to grade.

Of course this has the restriction of "what if someone builds a better mouse trap" - will the better stones be graded better than AGS 0 - amybe we will see AGS -2''s one day ???

The new pro version of DiamCalc generates these spread sheets of images as charts automatically, (as well as all the other ETAS values) but it costs $3,950

This example is a boring old round one - would have to hunt to get a princess cut one. But you can get the idea - thousands of images on this chart.

VERY cool Garry! I assume the x and y-axises would be labeled with some kind of information? If you could conjure up one for princess cuts and impart its meaning, I''d be very grateful. :)

keep in mind that a cutter using those charts would be like using RAP sheets for pricing.
Its a good starting point but you will lose your shirt if you go only by them.
