Diabolical way of getting repeat business?

I’ve been told by jewelers that pool chemicals corrode precious metals and to never wear them swimming. The pitting starts at a microscopic level and it’s too late when you notice it. The ocean isn’t much safer since the sudden change in temperature when you get in the water can cause rings to fall off.

Looks like Catbird saw an opportunity to encourage return business!

i have seen this add too and wondered ???
seems like a bad idea

Find a niche; create a niche; the pursuit of profit never ends.

As a kid at the lake I hung around the water slide with a mask and snorkel, made $20 in a day retrieving jewelry. I didn't charge anyone they just gave me the money for finding it.
This was at a time when gas was 65 cents a gallon and a penny could buy something.
Just say no to swimming with jewelry.

Edit: google says gas was even cheaper than I remembered.

at my old job one of my customers brought a metal detector just for a hobby
one day at work a lady rang from Auckland in a huge panic, she was looking for the builder with the metal detector (small village everyone knew everyone else's bussiness)
an older lady with one of those 3 ring coloured stone and diamond wedding sets that used to be popular
she had been for a walk at the beach then got in the car and drove home to Auckland sans rings
they were exactly where she said they would be under a layer of sand
she was so greatful she got back in her car and drove back to Waikanae

That sounds like a healthy and profitable childhood activity!

That reminds me of a high school classmate whose grandparents lived in Hawaii. Their hobby was metal detecting on the beach; they found quite a few rings! My classmate got some as gifts and would stack a bunch at a time.

I just picture all these rings sliding off in the water…

I'm bad, I wear simple bracelets swimming because I can't be bothered to take them on and off.....

My solid 14K white gold ring was damaged by chlorine when I worked at a therapeutic pool. My understanding is that the chlorine attacked the nickel in the alloy.
