I would love some advice regarding EGL diamonds. My boyfriend and I have been searching around for a center stone for awhile now. I''ve looked at some EGL diamonds that I think look really amazing and sell for a $1000 or more less than a similar looking GIA. I''m just worried about cut....

It seems to me from reading the posts that you can''t really determine a good cut by just looking at the depth and table %s.

If you were going to buy an EGL diamond do you think it''s better to buy at a B&M and use an ideal scope?? Or just go off the depth and table numbers and buy online?

In advance, thanks!

Neither.

Start with the idealscope if you've got one but your most important tool is your eyes. Then have it graded by a capable appraiser who is working for YOU instead of the seller and while you are still within the return period of the jeweler. Make sure to choose an appraiser who is familiar with cut evaluation. This is also a great way to double check the grading done by EGL and the seller for clarity and color. The same procedure holds whether your buying online or on the street. Knowing the table and depth percentages tells you very little.

Thanks for the information. Can you provide a reference for an appraiser in the orange county, CA area? LA is okay too.

Thanks again for the help!

Use this tool on this page, there are 14 in California
