A huge concern with resetting my ring is that I already changed the basket, thinking the original was the issue with the ring. After I got it back, I realized I simply just didn't love the setting overall. I am afraid to go back to the jeweler who made it AGAIN and also know that I won't really get value out of the ring unless I do. I did pay the difference and for the labor when I redid the basket.

Is this a huge no no to go back again??

I think maybe you should take some time and really figure put exactly what you do want in your ring before you go back again. It's important for you to be happy and you need to figure out what exactly will make you happy with your ring :)

Hi! Thanks for your reply. I am very sure at this point about what I want. I want a very thin pave band with more contrast to my stone than I currently have. I also want a basket style head with pave on the under bridge. I would prefer hand cast pave but I don't know if my jeweler does that. I am more just afraid of going back and offending him. I guess I am just feeling guilty and badly that I already had it reworked.

Did your jeweler do CADS for your original ring? I think if you are trying to do make major changes to your
setting then you may be out of luck but the only way to know is to ask your jeweler.

I wasn't involved in the original purchase but was in the revisions made. The ring was purchased in November. What I would want to do is exchange the ring towards something else because I can't change what I have to what I want.

Why would you assume I am out of luck? I am curious because I have obviously never been in this situation before and want to be well informed before opening up a possible can of worms.

I think you should start over, and perhaps find a jeweler who can make the ring like you want. Thin pave bands take a lot of skill to do right.

As an aside, this is business and guilt and shame and feeling bad should not come into play. If you pay for something, then you can ask for whatever you like and reset as many times as you want. If you expect a jeweler to do somethng for free, or "fix" things months later because of a mind change, that is a different story.

Since they have done custom work on your ring they may not take it in on trade. I would get pictures of exactly what you want and see if they can do that for you. If they cannot then I would go elsewhere.

I would not expect them to take it back as an exchange. It is a used ring. If you want another ring, I agree that you need to start completely over with a jeweler who makes the kind of ring you want.

Thanks.. I am kicking myself for not being honest with myself sooner. When I did the basket change a little over a month ago, they offered to take the ring as an exchange before they were sure it would be structurally safe to change the basket. I truly thought that was the only change I wanted at the time so I declined.

ditto.

Does anyone have any advice on where to go for super thin pavr? Besides Leon Mege :) I am hoping there is someone less expensive out there if I have to start from scratch

P.s. I am in NYC

What do you mean by super thin? Two good choices in NYC are Steven Kirsch and maybe Engagement Rings Direct.

P.s. I got a quote on this one already from him

Check with Steven kirsch.

Hi all! I want to thank you all for your advice with my initial reset question. I just posted the result of my reset in the "show me the bling" forum :)
