Does anyone have any good recipes for mint or chocolate martinis?

I especially want to learn how to make a sweet minty one. I tried a few weeks ago with vanilla vodka, godiva liqueur and crème de menthe (green kind) and it came out a horrid color and tasted too much like hard alcohol! For starters, I suppose I need to get white crème de menthe. I think I’m missing an ingredient that will give it a sweeter taste.

My attempt at a chocolate one was better and I used vanilla vodka, godiva liqueur and baileys. However, I’ve certainly had better ones out.

Any fabulous recipes you’re willing to share?

No recipe, but an idea for experimenting - usually the bartender will do a swirl of hershey''s (or other chocolate syrup) inside the glass, which helps sweeten it up. Also, I just did a quick search and saw that a lot recipes seem also add Frangelico, and I swear I''ve seen bartenders add some sort of milk or cream before, too. Here''s the result of the search I did with "godiva liqueur recipe" : http://www.idrink.com/bying/Godiva_Liqueur.htm

If you find one that works, please post your results! Making chocolate/chocolate mint martinis would be really cute for valentine''s day.

Ugh...lost the post.

2 pt. cream
2 pt. vodka
1 pt. chocolate liquor
1/2 pt cream de cacao
1/2 pt kahlua
1/4 pt baileys

top with chocolate, white chocolate, or anything that floats your boat. Before I got pregnant, these were my monthly treats!

Thanks to both of you! Jas -- your recipe sounds great. I''ll try it this weekend.

Elmorton -- I had the best mint-chocolate martini at the Red Crow a while ago and I''d love to recreate it at home. I always think about going there for desert even after we have been to a different restaurant!

vanilla vodka, godiva liqueur, baileys, and a splash of cream. Maybe that is what you are missing. Or use better vodka.

With any drink, if you want a good one, that is key.

I completely agree!

Oooh I found the Red Crow website...How on earth though does a person make it to dessert, though? All the courses looked fabulous!

ETA: Have you been there for their sat. night music? That looked fun.

There is a new chocolate mint bailey''s out now which would probably help! There''s a caramel one which is fab too!

Thanks everyone for the comments.

I use Absolut Vanilla. Not the best, but I consider that a decent vodka. Should I try a "better" one? Does Gray Goose have flavored vodkas?

Elmorton -- yes, I''ve been to the Red Crow several times for the Sat. night music. It is my absolute favorite restaurant in the QC. The portions are not huge so sharing a desert is ok, especially if you are going to hang around a bit after dinner and enjoy the music. It''s also a fun place to go for a few cocktails or appetizers at the bar.

Sum -- I have seen the flavored baileys, but have always hesitated. I love regular baileys and was worried the flavor would ruin it for me. I wish I could find a few in the little bottles.

you could make your own vanilla vodka.

how about vodka (vanilla or otherwise,) Bailey's, and butterscotch schnapps?

Also, Brandy Alexander: brandy, cream, chocolate liquer.

I am forever trying to perfect my chocolate martini. I''ll second using the chocolate syrup. I saw this done at a very upscale
bar recently. The bartender just squirted the hershey''s syrup, starting at the bottom of the glass, twirling the glass as he spiraled the syrup up to the top. Very pretty, then pour in your drink. I always top mine with chocolate shavings. And also just recently topped one with a hot chocolate drink mix from Williams Sonoma. Yummy.

Oh yeah! I forgot the chocolate syrup. We put it on the sides of the glass too (not completely just enough to be pretty). Seriously though try some cream or 1/2 and 1/2

Just a quick update in case anyone is interested... I had a wonderful mint-chocolate martini last night. The bartender told me she used equal parts of vanilla vodka, white godiva liqueur and creme de menthe (green kind). She used a little bit of chocolate syrup on the glass and it came with a chocolate stir stick.

LOL - I was testing martinis last night, too!

I made a white chocolate one -

2 parts vanilla vodka to one part white chocolate irish cream (I bought a knock off and it''s GREAT! for a 1/3 of the price of Godiva)
a shot of creme de cacao
a splash of skim milk

Swirl of hershey''s in the glass

It was stellar!! Creamy, but not too sweet.
