depth of shank proportional to size of diamonds

hi all, curious if all custom designers create the shank depth depending on the melee pointer size for pave rings. i know Leon creates mostly ering shanks between 1.4-1.8 mm in width, but if i wanted a 2.0 mm (small difference i know, but i like something substantial yet dainty) will he make the shank deeper too? that would be fine by me, just curious if that''s how it works.
