I just saw a 2.40 roumd brilliant with a depth at 53% and the table in the low 60%. Is this stone too shallow?
It looked great to me but this is the first round I have ever tried on. I currently have a princess cut. Anyway, it was GIA cert. G si2 for $21,000. I am seriously considering this stone. Any feedback would be great.
Thanks!
Holly

Anyone have any feedback????
Thanks in advance!!!!

Depth of 53% in a round???

Way too shallow.

Are you sure you didn''t mix up the numbers for the depth and table?

No. I am not 100% sure. I will check that tomorrow. Would that set of #''s be more acceptable?
The girdle was" very thin to thin", is that alright?
Thanks!
Holly

Tat2db, yes, if the %s were switched around, I would not immediately tell you to turn around and run! I would want to know what the exact numbers are for the table and depth, not to mention the crown and pavilion angles.

As for the girdle, I believe a very thin girdle is not an automatic disqualification for the stone. Personally, I wouldn't go below a thin girdle, but that's little old paranoid me!

Thanks so much, I will post the 100% correct #''s tomorrow. How do I find out crown and pavillion info? It is not on the gia cert.
thanks!
H

to get the crown and pavilion angles, you need something called a sarin report. ask your jewler if they can get one. AGS actually provides these angles on their certs.

however, if the numbers ARE in fact switched- 63% depth is deep for a round stone. and 53 is WAY shallow

hmm well if its table at 53% and depth at something like 62% that would not be SO bad..but not my ideal numbers either.

howver if it was table at 62% and depth at 53%..run fast!! much too shallow, probably fish-eye.

either way get more info, and sarin as well!

Mara said it very well

... A diamond with 53% depth is likely to be a catastrophe in terms of crown height and pavilion depth... furthermore, a very thin girdle is more likely to chip.
