Please help me decide between these two Radiant stones. I''ve learned enough where I know which one is best for each variable, where I''m having trouble is deciding which is the best overall as each have their positives and negatives. I haven''t seen them and may have to have them sent to an appraiser to compare the two as they are from two different sources.

GIA Date Measurements Weight Depth Table Girdle Polish Symmetry Clarity Color Spread Price
9/12/2001 7.03 x 6.71 x 4.02 Square 1.5 59.9 82 Ext Thin to Thick VG GD VS1 J 47.2 $4,583
3/7/2005 6.8 x 5.76 x 3.84 Rectangle 1.24 66.7 65 Medium GD GD SI1 H 39.2 $4,650

1st stone: I like to square radiants a little better than the rectangular and the spread and weight are pretty great for the price. Depth seems OK on the AGA chart but worried about the table being so much larger. Also worried about the extremely thin to thick girdle. Can this be a problem? Like the clarity, but the color is lacking. Color is not a deal breaker but combined with the girdle and table, could be. Also, is the fact that the cert if from 2001 an issue at all?

2nd stone: I like square radiants a little better, decent weight, pretty good depth and good table, good ratio as well. no problem with girdle and color is just fine. SI1 is not problem as that was the lowest I am willing to go. Doesn''t have close to the spread of the 1st stone.

Anyone able to help from this info as to which might be the better stone? Or do I really have to see both?

I''ve been told just now to stay clear of the 82% table! Anyone concur or can validate this?

I think if you just want the stone to look bigger regardless of quality, the first one would be better. I like the proportions of the second one a lot better though. Also J color in radiants would be pretty apparent, does that bother you at all?

I''m not an expert, so this is just my opinion. But I did purchase a radiant, and I have done a lot of research on radiants, so here''s my opinion for whatever it''s worth. Based on the numbers, I would definitely purchase the second diamond over the first one. Many people say you can''t judge radiants based on numbers alone, but I believe numbers can be used to rule out certain diamonds and the numbers definitely rule out diamond #1. 82% seems extremely large for the table, and I just don''t think this would be a good looking diamond. Also, it is a J color, and radiants will show more color than round brilliants will. The second may be worth checking out; send it to your appraiser and see what he/she says about it. The numbers don''t rule out the second diamond, but you will need to see it to know for sure.
