Degalia Cut Diamond - Anyone know this?

I''ve been trying to purchase an upgrade diamond find that a 2.0 cw,G/VS2 diamond is out of our price range.

I found a diamond today that is 2.30 cw but is in my price range due to the color and
clairity: I-SI1. I believe I like this stone because of the cut. It was very sparkly and crisp.
No cloudy surfaces in natural and store light.

Can cut actually make a diamond in I-color look that good?

The store said the diamond was a Degalia cut and I was shown some extra facets on the bottom that help reflect the light through the table.

Wouldn''t the extra facets bring down the value of the stone?

Anyone know what I''m talking about?

Okay... I don''t know about the actual cut name-- but you can google that. As for Cut making an I look whiter... YES. An ideal cut I can face up as white as a G. Especially if there is some flourescence in there to help it along.

Here is what I''ve found out about "Degalia" cut.

It was invented by Diamco Co.-NY who also cuts the "Cushette" and patented in 2003 according to a cut update chart.
The cut has 8 extra portals of light cut into the pavillion.

Thats all I could find out. Wish I knew if this was good or not.

When compared to other stones, I could see a slight color against a white background.
Next to skin tones is was very pretty. Very sparkly. Appeared white. I let the size blow me over and forgot to look in the loop. I went outside in shade and sunshine and it looked very bright white. Don''t know if this will sound strange but outside you could see clear to the bottom without andy clouds. I could see the angles and they looked very symmetrical which was pleasing to the eye.
I''m so confused.

It really bothers me that it''s an "I" color but I really wanted a 2.00cw stone.
This is an upgrade purchase for me. I''ve always wanted a larger stone. DH is willing to go over our original budget. How do I know I''m getting a fair price?

a well cut diamond does not need additional facets ''to help reflect light through the table''. you can get a great amount of light return from a well cut traditional faceted diamond.

the way you describe this cut (being able to see straight to the bottom) makes it sound like not much light is actually being returned in this diamond.

with a great cut and great light return you should just see sparkle and the rainbows coming off of the facets and every angle. if you are seeing anything else, the facets (which act as mirrors) aren''t working together properly to return light. however, if you love this diamond and it is within your budget, you should consider it. keep in mind, carat weight is not as important as actual dimensions.
i.e... if you have a well cut 2ct. stone that measures around 8.20-8.20X4.98 and you compare it to a mediocre/poor cut that measures 7.92x7.96x4.99 the well cut stone will not only reflect light better and look brighter, it will actually be bigger.

RE: Extra facets///

Some cutters have found that by leaving the stone deep and putting a few extra facets on the pavilion that it masquerades the "leaky" appearance if the extra faceting wasn''t there.

This allows the cutter to leave extra weight on the stone, and making it appear better, while still getting the extra carat weight.

You need to know the pavilion and total depth percentages and angles of this stone to determine this.

It is also probably good to know the girdle thickness of the stone as well.


Hope the seller can provide you with this, and that you post that info here, so we can comment more "precisely" as to what is "going on" with this stone.

I think the extra facets are a part of it''s cut.........

I googled it , too, and it''s the name of a diamond....I believe hexagonal cut........that is sold by one of the major mall/chains......

Don''t know how the cut would compare to traditional round brilliant....(in terms of depth, angles, etc...)

I know I can get the table and depth measurements. I was told these specs but forgot them.

I googled this and came up with a listing or proprietary cuts.

Saw a listing there with reference to Schacter

Leo Schacter Co. cut the Leo diamond. It is one like I mentioned- overly deep to retain weight and on the extra pavilion depth has some extra facets to compensate for return of light.

I also search patents and trademarks and no record came up using the term "Degalia Cut Diamond"


oh well.

Get it checked is the best advice to find out for sure.

Have some more info on this diamond. Anyone have any thoughts?

The company that cuts the "Cushette" used to cut the Degalia Round Brilliant. They only cut the cushion shape now.

I have some measurements:

2.31 ct/I/SI1
Table: 65.1%
Depth:60.4%
Crown: 33.6
Pavillion: 42.3
Girdle: Med.toThick
Polish:Good
Symmetry: Good
8.5 x 8.5 x 5.15

Only flaws I could see in the loop were crystal specks just inside the edge of the stone.
Center had no visible flaws. No Dark carbon spots, feathers or clouds.
