Can you folks educate me on the definition on these two words? Are they similar in any way or are they one in the same?

From Art of Platinum's website:

"milgrain".
A decorating style creating a fine bead like effect on the top of the edge of a metal; popular in the Edwardian and Belle Epoque periods. The term is widely applied to the type of pavé setting that has edges surrounding the row of bead-set stones. Old wife's tale has it invented in Italy by unscrupulous setters in order to conseal the rough edges on their setting work.
