I've been looking at some of the stock settings at LOGR and JewelryHoo, etc. I'm wondering what experiences people have had with the depth of these mountings to accommodate full figured colored stones?

Indy's thread asking for Cellentani's advice regarding experience with a LOGR inspired me to ask. Pictures are encouraged! :naughty:

My LOGR's have always seemed best for a stone with diamond cut-esque features. I think I may have read that many people found their LOGR's to be slightly larger and more accommodating, but in my experience they've usually been a tight fit and I had to return one recently because the 3x7.5 marquise opening only opened up to a 6.5. Very frustrating. Now I always shoot for the stone to be at least .5mm less than the mount should be; I'm imagining that it would be even harder to set with a deeper cut stone.

I just had a setting customized for my chrysoberyl, which has a high crown. It fit in there well, but I did ask him to lengthen the prongs, which helped. He's very good at customizations if you need a deeper basket or longer prongs.

Okay, if I have a stone that measures 7.2x6.1x4.5mm, would a 6x8 mounting need to be adjusted?

I don't think so. There's a little leeway +/- .5mm on most settings. If it's a deep stone, it is good that the setting is almost a millimeter too long
