Trying to make up my mind. Need your help. Round brillant diamond for engagement ring. 2.00 carat. Very Good to Ideal cut.

What is general preference between:
H SI1,
I SI1 w/ med-strong flor.
I VS2 w/ med-strong flor.

All for a platinum solitare setting. Trying to satisfy size and quality concerns, would like to keep price of diamond around $15-17.5K. I want something (big) white and bright that she''ll love, her dad & family will approve of as a good quality diamond and her friends will appreciate (some nice shiny rocks to compare with). She has a microscope at work so better than eye-clean is a must

Thanks for your opinions and assistance as I''m losing my mind going back and forth...

A few thoughts. If she has a microscope at work and "better than eye-clean is a must", I''d be looking at VS only. I''d personally prefer an H over an I, but there are some very nice I color diamonds around here. Someone named Diamondlove has about a 1.8 carat stone, I believe. My honest opnion is that you should look for just under 2 carats, perhaps a stone similar to Diamondlove''s. You certainly should look at ideal cut, and I don''t see you getting a fine quality ideal cut 2 ct. stone with decent color and clarity for $15-17,000. I''ll see if I see any around here.

hehe...DS, great minds think alike..we picked the same stone

I was just thinking on another thread how you and I always agree, mrssalvo, and I was going to tell you to please just pick out a setting for me, too! Haha! Then I come on here and we have posted the SAME STONE! Amazing!!!

that is so true. I''m secretly hoping you''ll decide on your setting first so I can copy you b/c I know i''ll love it

depth of 63.1 with a medium-slightly thick girdle probably means that the angles aren''t good.

Will there really be visible color with a GIA certified I with medium to strong flor, in a platinum setting? I know it''s all relative, but best & worst case scenarios?

Can I expect online retailers to email or fax me a GIA cert prior to sale? what else should I expect/demand from online?

Thanks again, really appreciate the help and opinions... btw for an ideal or very good cut.

you should be able to expect a copy of the report, Sarin, pictures, and Ideal Scope at minimum

what are thoughts on this diamond...

I agree with what Julie said. also, stick with Whiteflash''s Expert Selection or A Cut Above stones. the one you posted is vitual, meaning that WF doesn''t own it and doesn''t have all the info that they provide on the stones that are in house (they own)

Ditto to everything mrssalvo said!

And between the stone we posted for you and the first two Julie posted, wow, you have some fabulous choices!!! That 1.96 H is a very rare size.

hi DiamondDreams,

DS2006 was right, I have a 1.81 H&A stone from Superbcert (www.superbcert.com) that is I color VS2. My bf and I orig. thought that we would be bothered by anything below a G/H colored stone but he kept an open mind and brought in two very very similar stones except one was I color and the other was H color and he couldn''t tell it apart AT ALL. We even had an independent appraisal done and the appraiser couldn''t believe how similar the two stones were. The only way he could tell the two apart for the most part was by weighing it bc the "I" stone was slightly heavier in carat weight.

The key thing is that the cut of those stones were superideal. I''d at least look at ideal cut and preferably superideals (H&A stones or unbranded H&A equivalents) bc a great cut masks color really well. My diamond sparkles SO much that I can''t even focus on the color when I''m looking at the stone (well, when I actually had it... the bf has it somewhere getting it set).

Here''s the thread with photos: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/opinions-on-two-beautiful-diamonds-please.45940/

If you think you are on the fence, I''d recommend you do what we did and have it sent to an appraiser where you can look at both stones with all types of tools and also get an independent opinion and you can decide what you prefer. My appraiser who is quite familiar with ideal and H&A stones was so impressed that it helped me feel better as well. That and the fact that I couldn''t tell the two stones apart.

hope that helps!

Yep - totally agree with this.
